When I was about 8 I wrote a story about a girl whose cool older babysitter took her and her friends to a Michael Jackson concert, and in the middle of the show Michael Jackson said “Hey cool girl, come and dance with me.” And she got to dance on stage! They all got in big trouble, but it was totally worth it.

The Babadook looks SUPER scary, and makes me think of this children’s book that came out last year (like, a chapter book, not picture book) called Long Lankin that was hands down the scariest book I’ve ever read, including YA and adult titles. I think it’s hard to find books that scare you the same way movies do, like so you don’t want to go to bed, and this one hit all the right notes. And it was for children.

It wasn’t. I have another Stop and Shop horror story, about the one in JP, but I’m trying to be more positive about things.

December 16, 2013 on Saturday Night Live: John Goodman And Kings Of Leon

There is a Stop & Shop I went to a few times, and each time the bagger put EVERY SINGLE ITEM IN ITS OWN BAG, even after I asked him or her to stop (several different baggers did this). Then another time a bagger put the pie crust my friend bought in the same bag as toothpaste (and nothing else) and said, pointedly, “I put the toothpaste in with the pie crust.”

I wonder if it’s the same Stop & Shop.

This is a great article about the whole thing, my favorite part being David Levithan as a 19 year old intern at Scholastic, keeping the BSC bible. I would have KILLED for that job when I was 11.

Also, I really love the last day at work before a holiday. Everyone is so NICE. It goes slow, but people are so full of cheer. Even our patrons are being nice.

I was just thinking that ten years ago I was gearing up for my first-ever Peace Corps Thanksgiving, which involved a very bloody goat slaugher (and ruining my only pair of PJs), and a hilarious day of explaining how to prepare Thanksgiving dishes to my neighbors. And it’s a wonderful memory, but I am super thankful that I get to just bake a few things in a kitchen with running water, and that I have running water.

I just tried to figure out what this INSANE Hallmark Christmas movie that I saw at my parents house a few weeks ago was, and I found out that there are SPECIAL movies based on Debbie Macomber books (I read her Harlequin romances in the 7th grade and am surprised and delighted to hear she’s still around) AND that a lot of these are full-movie on youtube. This might save Christmas.

I NEED to know about the chustnuts song, though. Report back, Superglue.

God, I’m so jealous. I watched a few when I was visiting my parents last week. Anyone else I know who has cable would NOT be supportive.

Every year I consider getting cable from Thanksgiving to Christmas for this very reason. I can’t say no to those movies.
