When I was about 8 I wrote a story about a girl whose cool older babysitter took her and her friends to a Michael Jackson concert, and in the middle of the show Michael Jackson said "Hey cool girl, come and dance with me." And she got to dance on stage! They all got in big trouble, but it was totally worth it.

The Babadook looks SUPER scary, and makes me think of this children's book that came out last year (like, a chapter book, not picture book) called Long Lankin that was hands down the scariest book I've ever read, including YA and adult titles. I think it's hard to find books that scare you the same way movies do, like so you don't want to go to bed, and this one hit all the right notes. And it was for children.

It wasn't. I have another Stop and Shop horror story, about the one in JP, but I'm trying to be more positive about things.

December 16, 2013 on Saturday Night Live: John Goodman And Kings Of Leon
There is a Stop & Shop I went to a few times, and each time the bagger put EVERY SINGLE ITEM IN ITS OWN BAG, even after I asked him or her to stop (several different baggers did this). Then another time a bagger put the pie crust my friend bought in the same bag as toothpaste (and nothing else) and said, pointedly, "I put the toothpaste in with the pie crust." I wonder if it's the same Stop & Shop.

This is a great article about the whole thing, my favorite part being David Levithan as a 19 year old intern at Scholastic, keeping the BSC bible. I would have KILLED for that job when I was 11. http://www.thewire.com/entertainment/2012/08/scholastics-great-idea-legacy-baby-sitters-club/55900/

Also, I really love the last day at work before a holiday. Everyone is so NICE. It goes slow, but people are so full of cheer. Even our patrons are being nice.

I was just thinking that ten years ago I was gearing up for my first-ever Peace Corps Thanksgiving, which involved a very bloody goat slaugher (and ruining my only pair of PJs), and a hilarious day of explaining how to prepare Thanksgiving dishes to my neighbors. And it's a wonderful memory, but I am super thankful that I get to just bake a few things in a kitchen with running water, and that I have running water.

I just tried to figure out what this INSANE Hallmark Christmas movie that I saw at my parents house a few weeks ago was, and I found out that there are SPECIAL movies based on Debbie Macomber books (I read her Harlequin romances in the 7th grade and am surprised and delighted to hear she's still around) AND that a lot of these are full-movie on youtube. This might save Christmas. I NEED to know about the chustnuts song, though. Report back, Superglue.

God, I'm so jealous. I watched a few when I was visiting my parents last week. Anyone else I know who has cable would NOT be supportive.

Today I realized my phone had been out of batteries since the weekend, and I missed all these fun texts like a friend who was in town telling me her flight was delayed and do I want to go get pizza, and my mom offering to buy me a toaster.

I only saw it for the first time a few years ago, and it's now one of my favorite movies. I cry and cry and CRY AND CRY at the end. It's one of 3 movies I own on DVD. I will watch it as soon as I put my Christmas tree up. You are invited.

You guys BE CAREFUL because Fall River is for real a place where bad things happen. Nothing good has ever happened in Fall River. Tell a loved one you are going first. ALSO if you want to check out a kind of creepy place near Boston, I suggested hiking around Dogtown, MA. Go early enough, though b/c you WILL get lost and then all the sudden the sun will start setting.

Oh man, that's rough. I've been in that position with kids before. It's hard when they just won't ever ever ever ever admit their lie no matter how stupid it is Maybe adults do this, but not to the same degree, I think people get less ballsy with age. And it's not as easy as is sounds to just say "I know this isn't yours. You stole. Give it back." Working with kids is hard. Thank you for doing it.

-She wanted it. -Her sister wanted it and her sister cries when she didn't get things. -She had once "accidentally" taken home a Clifford toy that was ours. So, you know, sometimes things happen. -Maybe someone left it here, and they don't want it anymore. -It's soooooooooooooooooooo cute. -It actually already belongs to her, and she knew that WE had one too, and she brought it in so it can meet ours, but she can't find ours and do I know where it is? -I'm just going to go play with this over her for a while.

Today a little girl tried to steal a stuffed animal from my work, and her stories about why she was taking it home, and that it was probably hers to begin with, and it's totally okay, don't even worry about it, got more and more outlandish, and against my better judgement/experience/professionalism I argued with her for a REALLY long time about it. She was 4, tops. I'd say I need a vacation but I already had one so I think I'll have a drink.

Oh my god, I love this idea and I'm so excited! My biggest wish is that the posts would be at a time of day that I could participate in real time, so, you know, before 7am or after 7pm. NO BIG DEAL I'M SURE! But for real, what a great idea. I've always wanted to see Alice Sweet Alice (always=ever since I saw a list of scary movies with masks on flavorwire, about a month ago). But I don't know if it's easily available.
