What an ass wipe. This “troubled soul” and not “growing with the band” bullshit? Bullshit. Billy Corgan needs to grow up with the rest of the world and keep that shit to his therapist instead of taking huge sums of money from working class folks and then bitching to them about how they don’t appreciate him.
“You don’t trust us. Do you trust us?” “Yes, we trust you.” “See, you don’t trust us.”
Grow. Up. If “rock n roll” means immature jackass who charges exorbitant money so that he can bitch and moan and whine at you, then, yes, he is very “rock n roll.”
Well I love this video but I couldn’t tell you why. (pun? no pun?)
So this means Wild Beasts goes #1? I think it’s top 10 or close, but there are a number of records in front of it this year. And I find it hard to believe that one year of 10 covers only 1 spot of 50. These lists are handicapped by the limited perspective on this years’ albums. And sentimentality.
Noah and the Whale is where it belongs. Really it’s not too terrible, this list.
I would say major oversights include the Antlers, the Mountain Goats, Dan Deacon, Yo La Tengo, and Sunset Rubdown.
Thrilled!
I love how “no more albums” really just meant, “We’re gonna put out a ton of material without worrying about wrapping it up in an album.” Still a bummer, since Radiohead singles become so much better within the album, but not the “end is near” proclamation it seemed like.
Eh, whatever. They’re definitely risking over-saturation with 1901, but it’s still one of the best songs of the year.
I do think it’s funny that walmart/axe managed to eek 7:37 minutes looping just one song. Do they know Phoenix actually came out with a whole album?
Eh, can always complain, but it’s not bad. Apologies to Queen Mary higher, top 50 at least. I’ve always liked I Am Not Afraid of You… better than And then Nothing… personally.
And, yeah, 13 of top 20 going to first three years? Either playing it safe or sentimental?
Also in: Nicholson Baker, Philip Roth, and Marilynne Robinson are writing the screenplay for Transformers 3. Meanwhile, Philip Seymour Hoffman is slated to star in High School Musical 4, and Tom Hanks is playing the leading role in the film adaptation of Dan Brown’s novels…. oh wait.
Uh. Trippy’s the word, I suppose. Bad trip trippy. Good song, great album anyway.
Seriously, is there an album-art-generation program everybody starting using this year?
I’d be okay if Jim James and M Ward just kept playing together every once in a while and left the other two out of it.
Joining the choir: I do not like this. This sort of glittery neo-glam-look annoys the hell out of me, and most of the bands who employ the look or sound I find dull and/or obnoxious… Wild Beasts often being an exception.
I like it. I think it’s got more going for than the “Two Weeks” video, which was only worth one watch.
Love it.
Yeah, not doing a ton for me. It’d be worth it to see them for DM Stith though.
Because the genre/industry of official “Christian music” is utterly backwards. Wrong goals, wrong ideas, wrong wrong wrong.
Which is why Christians who make good music almost invariably avoid/leave “Christian” labels.
I like it. And I’m always excited about whatever Darnielle is up to.
Glitter/faux intestines very L.E.S. Artistes, though I’m sure Santigold didn’t invent it.
(forgot I had this account)
I’ll also add I’m waiting on Wilco (though not expecting it to be great, to be honest) and Midlake.
Watching the repeat. The sound is HORRIBLE. Golden Age was a disaster.
Great job on For Emma in particular.
Same. Great little Michigan band that deserves more attention.
Saw Cryptacize opening for Danielson. Both were great. Developed inevitable crush on Nedelle.

Agreed on Hillside. An amazing performance.
