“in which artists play their songs for an audience of zero.”
isn’t that just called “practice”?
Maybe Axl thinks it’s Halloween already and is going as Carlos Santana.
Pretty sure guy on the right is in Radio Dept?
Season 3 was also not very good. Dexter is alright, though, for Showtime.
I kinda agree with the debbie downer above that “How Soon is Now” shouldn’t really be counted as being on the album any more than “Blue Monday” should be counted as being on Power Corruption & Lies… that said, it’s a great album, especially side 1 which is just about perfect.
i liked their last album a lot. jury’s still out on this song, though. it reminds me of howard jones for some reason.
I think they put it on their before it was confirmed and then never took it down when they couldn’t make it happen.
Great, great show. I don’t think that Maxwell’s show happened, though.
The singing on these guys’ debut was a little out-of-control for my taste, though “THe Devil’s Crayon” was brilliant. But this new album is great, the falsettos just restrained enough…but there’s some amazing guitarwork on this album. I love it.
Isn’t the most obvious comparison Teenage Fanclub? I mean, the song is “Norman Bleik.” Oh those Scandinavians and their puns.
“The Wrestler” was amongst the 49 eligible songs…

They just didn’t nominate it.
But the Wall-E song only plays over the closing credts…
I thought the same thing, that guitar line is very similar. I like the album, fwiw.
Additionally, looking forward to new Franz Ferdinand, Casiokids, BOAT, Au Revoir Simone, debuts from Sky Larkin, Florence & the Machine, Bricolage, Sexy Kids, Amazing Baby (yes it’s true), Coin Under Tongue, Little Boots, Esser, Summer Cats…
It’s kinda dumb, and only the drummer seems to be wearing his own clothes, but at least the video seems “directed” and “edited,” unlike the wtf “pump yr breaks” clip. i like these guys a lot.
the list this year does seem pretty uninspired… and inaccurate by their own rules. Just a cursory glance, both that Sic Alps track and Cut Copy’s “Hearts on Fire” were 2007.
why does this remind me of steely dan?

this is rose elinor dougal’s brother’s band. the song’s too long, but it’s good.
