Maaan, this wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I loved/love the s/t and the singles comp to pieces, I don’t really know how I feel about this, other than I’m not feeling it as much. I guess I like it better when they sound cutesier and have spazzier samples? I dunno. I’m going to listen to this a bunch until I like it though, because I’m going to like this thing if it kills me.
But if they split up…you’re responsible.
Oh man, this is so good.
Yes.
Coincedentally, I was just playing the 6ths song with Robert Scott on it before I read this. What a crazy anecdote!
Also it made me so happy to hear the tape hiss on the Mountain Goats cover.
Times New Viking are so great.
III > Bakesale
The Gum Mix is so good right now it is insane.
Mika Miko!
Ughhh, doesn’t anyone respect his art? The best one was where he made a poem about Elvis and Robert Pollard.
I really liked Good Bad Not Evil and I’m sure I’ll buy this album too.
This is the first year I’ve been interested in music, and Stereogum’s been so great at getting me into stuff I’d never be otherwise (High Places, Marnie Stern, Lykke Li). Thanks, and keep up the good work!
Yes! I voted for Mary Pearson from High Places, but Beth’s great too.
It’s got Jonsi from Sigur Ros!
So much Portishead! Nicely done.

“They come across as insincere and trite and many people see right through the act. ”
I really can’t parse this part at all. You do realize that the guy in Sunset Rubdown isn’t actually a centaur and stuff, right?
