I loved this pair of episodes, and in the pre-season 4 era, i would've really liked both of them. I'll admit any pure adoration hinged on my happiness about the pervasive feel of Harmon's influence. But there were still some great metatextual references and good old fashioned mockery at the expense of sometimes laughable characters. Jonathan Banks is a fine addition to the new cast, they cut back on the Chang in a big way, and Chase's cameo was a nice coda to what he added to the show. Also: Troy and Abed. I'm going to miss that Glover kid.

Frances Ha really bummed me out! The last three minutes or so are hopeful, but everything before that is a semi-abrasive, immature girl not doing a very good job of being a grownup! No one understands why I feel this way!

The Full House tag is because that kid plays Derek, who steals Michelle's role as Yankee Doodle in the school play, right?

The release of that poster could not be less of a news story, right? It's just Seth Meyers. Smiling. He's a good-looking dude, but ... poster. Just a poster.

Die Hard is the most eighties-like eighties movie, even more so than gems like Mannequin. This movie has everything: Alan Rickman using multiple non-British accidents, Bruce Willis not wearing shoes the entire time, Carl Winslow confessing to killing a child...

Indeed, it does, at a company's Christmas party. And it's the eighties so there's a pregnant woman swilling champagne and a businessman snorting coke. I say this sincerely: you guys are gonna love it.

RE Star Wars: Isn't there kind of nowhere to go but up when it comes to Star Wars prequels? Aren't people just going to get more bummed with new stories because they won't be some impossible definition of "good enough"?

I fall on the y side in the y/n here. I really like her in An Education, where she's somehow both endearing and frigid at the same time. Gone Girl is a confusing book (from a moral standpoint--v. fast read, couldn't stop), but I think Fincher works well with confusing stories and so does she!

Because that line about Aubrey Plaza is a couple rows up from the line about Aaron Paul, I reversed their names. Intriguing word pictures ensued.

EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY I've read a lot of Batman comics (she said, wondering what it all meant), and while some writers are weaker than others, I can't think of one I like less than Frank Miller. I think both TKDR and Year One are decent stories, but there's something about their execution I just straight up don't like. Usually there's nuance to Batman's darkness, and I don't see it in his writing at all.

July 22, 2013 on EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK: Zack Snyder’s Batman/Superman Movie
WELP, The Dark Knight Returns (spoilers for a graphic novel by Frank Miller most people will never read, and that's totally acceptable, it only appeals to a VERY NICHE audience of those who like and/or tolerate Batman and Frank Miller, and I don't think that's very many people!) has the two of them dukin' it out at the end, both as older men. (Batman's actually kind of fat in TKDR. It's weird!) Basically, they have a lot of respect for each other, but they're fighting and fighting pretty fiercely. If that's not frenemies, I don't know what is.

Yeah, borderline, I'd say so (because I can't not defend him). The bit about how great Toby Jones' children are is a little much.
