Well, I have to say that anyone who knocks on the Who must not understand their role in the development of Rock n Roll as it stands today. Townsend was bashing and burning guitars before Hendrix. In many ways, they are one of the first punk rock bands. They basically altered the way rock shows were perfomred — from stand on the stage & wag your tail a little to absolutely anything goes. They personify Rock n Roll music to the extreme. THAT is all without mentioning their songwriting prowress, which all you Who-bashers above should get on your knees to, especially if you are “song-writers” which I highly doubt if you don’t understand the friggin’ WHO!
