IMHO it should be obvious from the videos that Annie is cultivating this aloof character that IS repressed. Like David Lynch’s films, St Vincent thrives on the tension of maintaining order when all is falling apart: the jarring aspects of many of the songs/the use of melodies lifted from either cartoons or Disney films/the flat deliver of the verses against the slightly off-kilter and pitched deliver of the choruses. Yes indeed, another critical darling in our midst.

i’m definitely in the camp that finds a better edit down to one disc would have made this such an incredible epic work. the interludes seem to be all from the same larger piece (perhaps if one mixed them all together, it would be Digital Shades Volume 2!).

the issue here is she tries so very hard to dance that line where she pretends to dismiss the very industry she props up by claiming she’s so in touch with the indie outsider world even as her mug is thrown up on the screen just playing the same dismissive character ticks…successful career? yeah compared to non-actors I guess it would be consider “successful”. bathes regularly? even been in close proximity to her during any one of her appearances at an indie show here in LA? deep musky tuna odor exuding from her lower area…

no, that’s why she’s shit…heard she’s got a band called Snarky Cunt where she just stands there and screams she’s still got credibility even though she’s 98 yrs old

no it shouldn’t be stopped. there should be more examples to illustrate how crappy Train’s music really is.

What’s Joan Rivers doing introducing this video in the beginning…?

 0Posted on Aug 9th, 2010 | re: Jack White Needs A Vacation (10 comments)

it doesn’t really work when the audience thinks the tirade of part of the act…”Whooo…Jack White told me to fuck off…” A better response would have been to stop playing, glare at the audience, walk off in disgust and not return. The bitch-fuck-cunt-insiders would have stood there for about one minute until they found the next thing to race off to and gain access for free

Incredibly bland music for incredibly bland people – “I only listen to music that reinforces my safe world view” – bunch of fucking cunts

Again, this deluded twit loves the fact anybody even listens to her. Stop feeding her false ego. Find someone else. Then she’ll know her place

Ann just needs to disappear. She’s reached the point where she realizes she got a platform for her 15 minutes and milks it for all it’s worth. It’s not about the music. It’s about her mugging for the camera and making what she thinks are snarky remarks about music. She’s not better than any of the self-absorbed wanks from The Hills. Punch her in the face now…

I would have thought this would sound a bit more…ominous, experimental, unnerving, threatening. Interesting listen yet nothing I’ll be giving a deeper listen. Solid yet dissipates once the songs are done. Why did I get the feeling this will be a big hit on (blah) KCRW?

Minneapolis!!!

I saw her play at The Smell on Sunday…and it wasn’t a good performance. Love the album and hoped she’d be great. Granted she went on at 11:50 pm. Her performance reminded me of early Cat Power performances: major stage fright, refusing to acknowledge the audience in any small manner, blasting through a 35 minute set just to get done, major technical glitches. I could go on yet I think it would rather unfair since Grouper started out as a solitary lo-fi ‘bedroom’ project. All I know is I am selling my Animal Collective ticket for their show in LA because they kinda bore me and she possibly won’t resolve her issues before the show at the Wiltern.
