“I’ve got no evidence that any Stroke has ever set foot in Brooklyn.”

ah, if you only had the investigative genius to just check out Julian’s twitter:

He lives off the Bedford L!

first off, in 2013, do we seriously need three long paragraphs of context about the strokes influence? dear god, how many times has this one topic been written over and over between stereogum and pitchfork? no, those weak “i was at SXSW and thought about the strokes” sentiments don’t add ANYTHING new to the conversation, just give us some CREDIT as readers of this website that we are ALIVE and LISTEN to music and are semi-aware of the strokes

secondly, i couldn’t disagree more about comedown machine, i think this is an absolute trainwreck of an album. “welcome to japan” is just…gross, that horrible disco beat, the corny walkdown chord progression the watered down phoenix / haim influence…that solo! oh my god, that cocaine solo! “50/50″ is actually one of the only songs on the album i *like* , it just sounds like the pathetic end of the band, and there’s something interesting in it’s electronic desperation, it’s like the sequel to “glass” from phrazes. “call me back” is kind of cool too, so bizarre, but it’s not pulling from the horrible-strokes-corpose-reinvented-as-phoenix/haim pool like some of this album is doing.

i’m hoping this is the end of the strokes, because this is just miserable to listen to. you also left out phrazes, which is honestly like a sixth strokes album, which i would say is the clear “third best” album (besides having some confusing moments, it’s at least the most focused effort any of them have produced since 2003, i.e. doesnt have abysmal tracks like “killing lies,” “call me back,” “games,” “metabolism,” “80s comedown machine,” like every strokes album after 2003 contains

would be tolerable if it weren’t for the boring nasal indie rock vocals. and the cookie cutter chorus. and also if the singer didnt beat his girlfriend that one time.

wow, nothing says “punk” like the phrase “entertainment weekly exclusive”

also, never been impressed by the singing in this band, and that continues with the weak melody / delivery in this song. ALSO, who the hell recorded this? the drums sound terrible! the snare sounds like a toy and the cymbals sound like crap. did they record this on an iphone?

how the hell did that introduction blather make its way through several so-called “respected” editors and end up here on this website? wasting time transcribing (and wasting our time reading) you both talking about scheduling and a DREAM YOU HAD last night? and no, leaving that part it in isn’t endearing if that’s what you were going for, it reads as lazy and unprofessional. come on. a little self-editing never hurt anybody.

i’d say if beach fossils were a kind of pasta, they’d be a wet, limp, soggy noodle, maybe spaghetti. DIIV would be in that same family, the wet, limp, soggy, uninteresting, kind, but a bit more boiled down and generic, so maybe they’d be like weeks-old chef boyardee.

another another “last last final no really this time” show for this band. just go away!!!!!!! there is absolutely no respect for finality in 2013 anymore.

and don’t give “no it’s A&C’s anniversary, it’s special!” then they shouldn’t have played a “last show” !

the only song you picked from their first album is “we’ve been had” ? the only song you picked from bows + arrows is “the rat” ? those might just be their two best albums and you picked the big, easy, singles. “rue the day,” “wake up,” “thinking of a dream i’ve had,” “little house of savages,” it goes on and on. this is a piss-poor list.

what is with this “music critic” bullshit of having to like these rolling stone-approved artists? like, do you actually listen to and enjoy a madonna album from the 80s? she’s an irrelevant, out of touch celebrity and always has been, am i missing something here? same goes for U2, does anyone actually like achtung baby? just because rolling stone gives it 5 stars doesn’t mean you have to think the same.

which shows you why this is a list that is scraping the bottom of the indie rock barrel. the bird and the bee and you say party made the list of the “20 best madonna covers?” OUCH.

i think both albums are fucking great too, tom! fucking, fuck fuck fuck

“Glad you gave Open Your Heart some press, too.”

are you asleep? it just got Best New Music. it’s actually getting so much press that i’d call it “incredibly, vastly, and undeniably overrated,” it’s not punk music, it’s blogs trying to make you THINK it’s good punk music. but why does this band get covered? (hint: they’re from brooklyn)
