The Hold Steady not sound like everything else they’ve done? And yet, I’m so damned confused; first “Hurricane J” was too much like The Hold Steady, and now everything else isn’t enough like them.
I’ll admit that my expectations were pretty low after I heard that Franz left the band, but it’s not their worst album.
“Rock Problems” is a solid tune and Weekenders is a lyrical sequel to “Chips Ahoy!” Some of the slower tracks have a new feel to them and the characters in This is lyrical universe don’t show up as much, but I think it’s a fine album.
People aren’t starting to turn the other way on this, it’s just this album. Keep trying.On the other hand, us fans will, ahem, Stay Positive.
