Dear (prefix)-gum:
Of COURSE this happens literally four days before I move to New York. Of course!
Will there be more festivities during the summer, perchance?? Gabe's Summer Mixtape release show??
cordially,

I missed it too, but reading back on it, it really goes to show that even some of the funniest people on the wwweb (world war web) are also some of the Best.
I don't nearly come by the comments section as often as I once did (it's been a crazy, hectic and amazing few months IRL!) but I do read VG everyday, and all your comments as well--it's definitely a wonderful respite from some of the more frustrating aspects of making films and passing college and moving to New York in a month's time. Seeing the funny used for good and not evil is totally refreshing. I don't think what happened with nakedpainter here could have happened anywhere else.
What I'm trying to say is... aw, come here, I love you Videogum, ya big lug.
Roman Polanski's What? He seems to be living his own Roman Polanski's Tragedy of MacBeth. No word other than Roman Polanski's Repulsion could describe my feelings right now.
This video definitely, definitely lays it on THICK, (like most of M.I.A.'s political messages,) but I guess that's the question we have to face: Is it shocking, or ridiculous, or over the top, simply because it's white redheads being rounded up and tortured? If this video featured all the people throughout the world who have suffered and continue suffer through this elsewhere, would we still think it was "pointlessly violent"?
I appreciate that, even on a major label, M.I.A. pretty much does and says whatever the fuck she wants. This video is proof of that. Plus Romain Gavras is one hell of a filmmaker.
I will definitely be there! My friends (hah! friends! IRL! hah!) and I were already planning on going!
And yes, we can share! My popcorn is your popcorn, back and forth, forever (in jail apparently--gross, disgruntled hipster no. 69.)
Also, where are you, incredimarc? He's the only other Denver monster I've ever heard of.
This thread is the reason why I should never, ever go to class, try to get internships and make something of myself.
I can't believe I'm so late to this. This is a masterstroke in Gum History. So much love, you guys.
Yeah, she also made curlers out of Diet Coke cans. Just a way to look fab by any means necessary at hot Gaga jail.
I don't know if I liked it, but I definitely have seen it. So that's something!
Scott, Stereogum, as a blog, is still incredible--I continue to make discoveries on there quite often, and it's one of my primary resources for music info/journalism (The "Meat is Murder" post by Brandon was especially nice). So thank you for it, and Andrew, don't interrupt, etc.
I think most everyone here is just talking about the commenters/community, which is something you have little control over (and really, something more indicative of the indie community at large these days--duels over authenticity, etc). That certainly needs a reset button but it's bigger and more difficult than just "Stereogum sucks now". Perhaps forcing people to register if they want to comment? Most of the shitty dick-measuring comments come from unregistered users. Who knows. But keep up the good work and thank you.
Exactly. It's like, yeah, my boyfriend's hog is great, but I kinda like that time just for us, you know? I'm not jealous or whatever, it's just... my MOM saw this. She was all, "Why on God's green earth is that BOYFRIEND of yours going on about his you-know-whats in the internet pictures?" and I was all "SHUT UP MOM YOU JUST CAN'T DEAL WITH THE FACT THAT WE'RE IN LOVE."
But I'm gonna have a long talk with him about the proper usage of our camcorder after I get done SHOOTING MYSELF IN THE FACE.
In many ways, this makes me like them more. Thank you Gabe, for bringing these individuals into my life and, like tonetta777 before them, giving my roommate and I a new Zodiac-esque obsession.
