It was a good record. I don’t think their fans really understood what they were doing.
I was bored by microcastle. You should realize, though, that both Uncut and Mojo have a far amount of lead time on these lists and records released later in the calendar year – like “Microcastle” – tend to get shafted. I’m optimistic that it will grow on me, but if I were writing for one of those magazines, I wouldn’t put it on my list yet. That is of course simply my opinion…
Cryptograms kicked ass though.
DANCE DANCE DANCE TO THE RADIO!
Michael’s the antelope that just won’t die.
Reading these comments made me think of the nature channel for some reason.
Obviously, I’m excited.
it’s been a while since we’ve had any boar man…
I didn’t get what the FNL references had to do with the song..
yeah…but if Jack Black’s doing Meatloaf, and Meatloaf’s doing jack black, then Jack Black’s still doing Jack Black
Their sound is closer to Sex Pistols and T.Rex than The Beatles.
We don’t hate them because they’re popular, we hate them because they’re more popular than us
Right…Because we all forgot Arcade Fire invented that particular move.
you made at least two of those up
I like Indy CD and Vinyl a lot, but they don’t have a particularly massive selection of vinyl. When it comes to vinyl, Missing Link is the place to go. Tons of used vinyl. Just my opinion.
the fact that those sites removed the articles proved that blogs have a long way to go. They have every right to post the preview. Metallica has no right to remove it. They gave in. Metallica won. Pathetic. Really pathetic.
How are blogs supposed to evolve into legitimate sources of news when they can be strong-armed into removing content bands, people and lawyers don’t approve of. I realize UK libel and press protections are different than US law, but courts have generally held that blogs have the same rights as traditional newspapers.
Geez. I really didn’t mean to say fuck so much. I’m normally not so inarticulate.
I guess “Marquee Moon” is on here. Apologies.
I mean presumably Rob Sheffield had some influence on this list. So why the fuck isn’t Pavement here? Maybe it’s because he’s the only writer at RS with a clue. Fucking “Rattled by the Rush” is my vote – that opening riff and the guitar solo kick fucking ass. But “Summer Babe” and “Frontwards” both deserve consideration. Also where the goddamn fucking hell is Television? I’d vote for Hell’s “Blank Generation” and “Love Like Anthrax” as well.
how did he get hold of the record?
Honestly, judging by recent comments, whenever a band posts it’s album art; it’s awful.
dude…fuck you. why you care that he doesn’t have instant recall of every torrent site. you’re the tool for being so unnecessarily mean-spirited. you don’t have to be a dick to keep your “indie cred” intact
This is slightly off-topic but did anyone see Indianapolis-based Everthus the Deadbeats down there?
I think EW kind of backed themselves into a corner by picking one album for each year, but overall it’s a better list than most. They seemed to refrain from putting things on the lists for shock value. I would have put Wowee Zowee on the list, but minor quibble.
Good track. I think this could be a more interesting record than Plans.
