It’s the standard “i’m mad because you don’t like what I like”.
And that’s what it is — I go every year because it’s a fun weekend trip. Sometimes the lineups are better than others, every year someone you expected nothing from will surprise you, etc. But every year, it’s -always- a great time. We can all get on our high horse about our year end lists, but esp in the upper midwest when summer is so fleeting, is it so wrong to want to just pound a couple beers and listen to music?
I mean, no one’s demanding that you be a fan. It’s cool if you don’t want to go. You’re in chicago, you can see the same bands play in town that week, or the next time they’re around.
Would love to see Springsteen’s response to that quote.
cmmon, jump on the bandwagon. bonus points if you complain about the lineup without suggesting who you’d rather see!
Normally I’m up for differing opinions, but you can’t deny HIssing Fauna is by far their best work.
Daft Punk didn’t seem so smarmy about the whole affair
All is fair in love and dad rock
Seriously, is there any site left that doesn’t have “From the web” “Other links from around the web” “Other links that might interest you” “Links from our partners”?
The side banner ad with the creepy looking kid for Levi’s was bad enough.
I’ve been a huge (huge!) Sufjan fan since day one, and I honestly think I”m the only person out there that finds Illinois to be the weakest of his albums by far. The songwriting is so contrived / ham-fisted / awkward. It’s hard for me to even listen to that album.
Michigan is my favorite, just the raw emotion of it all, it’s such a genuine / likable album. It established the sound. It makes Illinois sound like a bad retread. I guess a lot of it probably has to do with when you first started listening to Sufjan. It seems in general the artist’s album you start with always ends up sounding the strongest to you.
Seven Swans is mostly great, Age of Adz / the accompanying EP’s have some great tracks as well.
Long story short,
Michigan > Age of Az > Seven Swans >>>>>>>>>>> Illinois
