I didn't down vote any of your comments but they justifiable deserve them. You don't know who Timothy Leary is? He was a counterculture figure of the 1960s who popularized the saying, "Turn on, tune in, drop out". The saying advocates the use of psychedelics.
Is this some form of ironic ignorance of Timothy Leary?
I've listened to the album a couple of times and while I agree it is possibly Ross's best album; I think the album fails to regain traction after "Sixteen". In particular the four song run from "Presidential" to "Diced Pineapples", which all feature an R&B singer on the hook and the last 3 of which are songs for ladies, pulls the album into a real rut. Ross only makes one smart decision in that rut which is putting Drake exactly where he belongs on "Diced Pineapples", singing the chorus. Also "Maybach Music IV", being the worst in the song series, lends credence to the opinion that Ross is only as good as his guest features.
I would have to say Reks Rebelutionary is my vote for album of the week.
Yeah there really isn't anywhere to pointlessly dislike someone for their musical taste since the decline of the Indie Record Store; on the internet most people just stay in their own niches. Insert great "High Fidelity" meme that doesn't exist.
Not that I didn't enjoy the video for "Forever" but all I could think about while hearing this song was HAIM singing "Hold On" by Wilson Phillips. That needs to happen.
This reads like a transcript from an episode of Real Housewives of Cro-Mags
I don't really understand all the hubbub; I mean if this was HipHop the group would immediately get signed and probably hit platinum status. This is even the perfect amount of street cred to relaunch a career. Not to be insensitive but financially this is a goldmine. How could people not want to dig into their back catalog for signs of the madness?
Is it just me or is the treatment for this video completely misguided? Lack of talent aside, at no point is there a revolver which is the necessary element for Russian roulette. So essentially while Keef, Trel and their prospective crews are wilding out they are playing suicide because of a misunderstanding of the song title's basic principles.
Great article but I can't quite figure out why this story is receiving so much attention. The core members of the band are undeniably talented and without a doubt will find success in the future. Owens leaving the group almost makes a good amount of sense. Each Girls album has taken a different stylistic direction, freeing himself from one sole contributor will allow him to further that exploration. I just hope he doesn't suffer from Devendra Banhart syndrome: an artist's ambitions overpowering any sense of continuity or reason.
The New New York scene is just insane, but unfortunately does not seem to be getting the respect due even from old school Hip Hop heads who bemoan the end of Boom Bap. The East Coast is just being criminally slept on at this point, but contains the talent to finally end the South's now decade long hold on Rap. If you haven't checked this out definitely do. Then go and get all of the releases by the guest artists and then go and get the artists featured on their records and so forth...the end result being a realization of the rebirth of real Hip Hop: lyrically driven, soulful Hip Hop.
First "Mercy" and now "New God Flow", I think its a big of mistake to wait until August for the release of Cruel Summer. GOOD Music could literally rule the summer if the album dropped sooner. Regardless, still hugely anticipated.
What no 2 Chainz?...He must have been busy.
