Romney's lack of appeal was a big factor. No denying that guy's lack of appeal (which is a weird double-negative way to say: There is a lot of denying that guy's appeal). Just as important, though, I think, is that a lot of people voted not so much *for* what Obama would do, but *against* what the the current pro-corporate, anti-middle-class, racist, sexist far-right-lunatic-fringe Tea Party GOP would have done, had Romney won and the GOP held onto their Congressional majority. I voted for Obama no duh; but I found myself thinking not so much "Obama will save us all and there will be many more seasons of Boardwalk Empire yaaaay" as "Obama will stop the GOP from deregulating the financial industry even further... he'll stop the GOP from outlawing abortions.. from making gay marriage illegal..". For whatever that's worth.

October 1, 2012 on The Videogum Why Don’t You Caption It? Contest: Faked Death Public Marriage Proposal
After every episode of BB, I patch out in my haste to get to this page of the great things you guys say about it. I kind of almost feel like I haven't watched the episode until I've seen the insightful comments and awful spider closeups and hysterically funny Ernie/Bert gifs. #sincereflatterygum. I have a really long and convoluted theory about how Walter maybe WANTED to screw up and be found out - having to do with the endless, insane pressure-cooker of being a criminal (NOT THAT I KNOW your first baggie is free after that we'll talk) and also having to do with his staggering need not just to be a meth kingpin, but to have others acknowledge it. I think it burns him that he can't go around blaring from the rooftops what a big scary macher he has become, after decades of being a milquetoasty schlub. I don't think it's a conscious need to get caught, but still. The title of the episode - Gliding Over All - is a Whitman poem duh; here it is: GLIDING o'er all, through all, Through Nature, Time, and Space, As a ship on the waters advancing, The voyage of the soul--not life alone, Death, many deaths I'll sing.

September 4, 2012 on Breaking Bad S05E08: To Be Continued…!
Did anyone else get a strong 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' vibe over Walt's whole in-bed-unwanted-creepy-Skylar-making scene at the end? The whole "It'll pass, you know," thing? Just like Leonard Nimoy's character to Donald Sutherland and Brooke Adams in the (fabulous) 1978 Philip Kaufman remake? It was creepy. InBreaking of the Baddy Snatchers.

July 23, 2012 on Breaking Bad S05E02: Walt Is Very Frustrating
Did anyone else notice that the bullets were tracer rounds? Or at the very least, since that was a belt-fed gun, that every 5th bullet or so will be a tracer? What does that portend, do you think? Tracer rounds can ignite flammable substances from a distance. I don't know why Walt would need tracer rounds. Maybe it was just a loss leader type "free with purchase" thing that Walt had no control over. Oh, how I'm concerned by the tracer rounds! hash tag husband who went to military school end hash tag

July 10, 2012 on Krispy Kreme – “Stolen Bikes”
Caution: Snark Free Post. Okay, so: I like Krispy Kreme and DJ Gummo (aka Moneymaker Mike). I don't know exactly why, except that KK has a kind of a flow. i've heard worse (damning with faint praise much?) - but really, that "purdy little girl from Tennessee, I like you and you like me" is sort of catchy... and they're just so jaw-droppingly regional. Now I will go and marry them, as I'm sure you will all say why don't I just marry them if I love them so much and I do. It might be tough because of how he makes out with every girl in the world, but I'd be safe from attackers wielding infinity knives, so...

June 29, 2012 on Krispy Kreme – “Girl Work It”
Nope, sorry. Well, wait, rephrasing: If Rush HAD apologized, I wouldn't accept it (as if I could accept 'on behalf of my fellow Liberals'). Because I'm female, see, and we still get paid less for equal work, and we still get raped and battered to an insanely disproportionate degree. And 1919 (women voting can do it inception time jamboree) is NOT THAT LONG OF A TIME THINGY AGO. ("what's a thesauronius?? Much less a diptiollary? - signed, wiminn"). Not gonna do it. I'm old enough that in my childhood, I was told I couldn't study computer programming because "it's for boys only" (Mr. Krebs, Mendocino Middle School, 1702-ish). That still just gets under my exoskeleton like crazy (fun fact - women are exoskeletal!! Did You Know?). So no, for these and a billion other tiring, irksome, ridiculous, demeaning, infuriating, exhausting reasons, I wouldn't accept Rush's apology, even if A) he had made one, which no he did not; and B) This type of argument, i.e. - "You're making yourself unpopular by your refusal to lie down and be demeaned and belittled!!!" - has been used against women seeking freedom and equal rights for like, forever. SO NO. Gabe and Kelly, usually I want to marry both of you with a shotgun and a merry hi-ho, but not today.
