This biggest issue is why cannabis is still illegal.
Why not "Black Velvet"? She could actually pull that one off...
This list needs more Foreground.
Anyone else like both albums about equally? Repeated plays over a long period of time may not help Coexist as much as they did xx, but so far the albums strike me in different but equally loveable ways. Also, best Deconstructing article to date, IMO.
Exactly. How do people NOT pick up on that?
Hahahahaha I got the #3 worst comment of the week because Stereogum readers are completely incapable of picking up on sarcasm... that's awesome. Wow, people. Reading comprehension is a useful skill, you know.
Nate's actually one of the nicest singers you'll ever meet. Talked to him after a show in Boulder a few years back that only about 100 people attended... back when no one knew who they were. He's also big on gay rights. So... you know, go to hell or something.
Finally... a decent Top 10 list from Stereogum. After screwing up on "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" and "Tender" on the Wilco and Blur lists, I was sure they'd screw up "Waltz #2"... but no dice. Gj, Sg.
Hahaha, wow, I was going to write this exact comment, down to the equals sign.
I really wish they'd included the "Oh. My. God. Becky, look at her BUTT" intro!
No prob. That's when emoticons come in useful, eh? If I'd put a ;-) I probably wouldn't have 5 downvotes right now. Ah well. I'm pretty sure some people downvote without even reading.
Um... it was a joke. Perhaps a bad one, but just a joke. No need to take it so seriously. I still listen to New Found Glory and Taking Back Sunday, and I don't care about having "cool" music taste.
I found a lover who I have to love and who's definitely NOT too sad to give a fuck. So I rarely listen to this album anymore.
Since I can't comment on P4K, I'm going to post this here: their review of the Sod in the Seed EP was laughable. A good rule of thumb for browsing P4K reviews: Ian Cohen is always wrong.
Ummmmm..... "TENDER"?!
Emoticons are overrated, but this deserves a good O_o
The only thing that could make this better is if they played it on a ukulele.
Easy choice for #1, but I agree with other commenters that Gold should be much higher. Very good album. Also, what's with the hate for Rock N Roll? That's actually a very decent album. "Wish You Were Here" is still one of my favorite Ryan Adams songs.
I find that to be a very, very sexy album cover.
Definitely don't agree with this list. Automatic should be #1.
I'm currently testing how long I can wait before I just can't take it anymore and listen...
Never said there was something "wrong" :-) being guitar-whipped is not necessarily a BAD thing... just helps to beat out the omnipresent synths!
Anyone who genuinely thinks that "Settle Down" is better than "Oh Love" needs to be guitar-whipped. Did you also think that "hey baby hey baby hey" was better than "Minority"? People will fall for anything if there's a pretty lady fronting it.
Um... yeah, dude. Anyone who doesn't agree with your musical opinions has a mental deficiency. Keep on telling yourself that.
Love it love it love it! I don't give a damn about the haters -- Green Day are, IMO, the most important rock band of the last few decades. This song fills me to the brim with passion for music, and isn't that what great songs are supposed to do?
Great article, Liz. This embodied my thoughts with skill.
Wow... Girls were probably my favorite new band from the last few years. I haven't been able to smile since I read this. Time to revisit the best EP ever released by anyone...
I do have principle, and I'm not stealing, dipwit.
I adore "Love Will Tear Us Apart" as much as the next music lover, but #1? Come now. Methinks the rock-martyr phenomenon is at work here.
You know, I might have agreed with you twenty years ago, but the whole concept of intellectual property rights needs to be reevaluated. What you said made sense from a shortSIGHTED point of view. I consider myself an ethical person, and I've thought, talked, and read through this issue for many years. I don't believe it is immoral to download, and your preaching is as ineffective as some Christian telling me that it's wrong to be gay.
That is morally acceptable. It's called a library. If a label offered me the choice to borrow an album for three weeks and then buy it if I liked it, I would support that.
Bullshit. I will never accept a system where I 80-90% of the money I pay to most artists goes to label CEOs and such instead. I choose to support artists in other ways, like promoting them for free on my blog, going to shows, and buying merch (many artists make more money off of a single hoodie than off of 40 albums sold). I do much more for them than you do by paying Apple for the right to download an artist's music. That's not rationalization. That's a fact.
No you wouldn't. You have the option of going to a thrift store. I've stocked my entire closet on the amount that most people pay for a single suit. But there's no option for buying cheap used music, is there? I remember seeing an article a few months back about a possible file-sharing site where users could sell music that they didn't want anymore. It doesn't make much sense, but then again, neither does paying $1 per song when most artists see less than $.10 of that.
Yes. Some of us music lovers can barely afford rent and food, even with a college degree and constant job-searching. $10 is a hell of a lot of money to someone who buys ramen rather than Progresso because it's cheaper.
Wow, just saw Death Cab at the beautiful Ellie Caulkins... now possibly Morrissey? Exciting.
Yay! Second straight week. Maybe I can get #1 next week if I write an even longer post. (Gotta be able to mock yourself!)
Just a note -- this track is great when you're stoned.
