This might just be Palace of Worms' best song, and I like all his songs.

Great column as always, gentlemen. Like another commenter here, I'm also torn about the change in programming--it's pretty overwhelming to come to a page with 15 must-listen-to songs, but also fucking exhilarating. Any honorable mentions this week??

I actually like this better than anything on Abyss, great though that album is.

"What Might Soothe You?" was like a bolt of lightning for me; really psyched for this album.

Thank you Aaron et al. for that fantastic Latitudes link. I didn't know the band until now, and I think "Body Within a Body" might just be the best track of the year.

One of my favorite tracks of hers so far as well. The Grieg influences are really strong in the opening choral bit.

Last track "Winter Dress"--is that a Red House Painters reference? I definitely hear some RHP in the title track.

Could be because P4k dismissed it. I love The Twilight Sad but hadn't gotten to their latest yet; it's on my list now.

Fuck me this was worth the wait.

Wow. Despite their aping Deafheaven, I am blown away. Especially since I was pretty unimpressed with their previous album, Funeral.

Awesome! The track borrows the main tune from the "Vltava" movement of Smetana's "Ma vlast" (My homeland) symphonic cycle. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdtLuyWuPDs

I would say your photo is pretty black metal.

Agalloch was electrifying, but their poor sound was a real letdown.

Almost glad I wasn't at the show--judging from that clip it sounds like the audience was uninterested in actually listening to the music.

I'll be at MDF, only for one night, and for Agalloch, but can't wait!

This has already shaped up to be her best album.

Can't agree with you and Trevor more about the sheer volume of amazing albums coming out this year, and it's only April 1! The avalanche started with a number of releases coming out at the very end of 2013, and by February it was already apparent that we were in for an extraordinary run of great metal. And we haven't even heard the two most anticipated albums yet!

Great stuff...was really surprised that Vaura didn't make it on to more best of 2012 lists.

Definitely it will NOT go undiscovered; I've been waiting for this since the first album.

Awesome stuff. Like last month it's taking me over two hours to listen to and check out all the bands I'm less familiar with (not that I'm complaining)

can you recommend any particular "haunted ’60s/’70s pastoral folk" bands? I know about Comus, but that's about it. This album is excellent by the way, I'm very glad to have found it.
