Also, Tennis!
Memoryhouse!
Love it. I don’t know why Holy Ghost! stories never get comments, but I like that you keep posting them.
That’d be great if they got another album out next year. An EP one year, an album early the next, and the follow up a year after that is a good pace to set to make sure people remember you and build a following. Which is something I think they’re doing anyway. I saw them play two times in the last year and they evolved so much in a few months and they’re terrific live. The record is stellar too, hopefully it won’t be forgotten in the year-end roundups.
That Twin Sister video is entirely fantastic.
They’re trying to say “Our cows, chickens, and pigs are happy as fuck until we slaughter the shit outta them in this weird boxing machine and one single farmer who seems kinda depressed loads them into a pretty small, non-air conditioned truck and drives them out of frame.”
Definitely. It’s my favorite album of the year so far period. It’s as strong as LCD’s debut album, which is a lazy comparison to make, but it feels like that kind of pronouncement.
Was Roman Coppola not available?
It is a sad and beautiful world.
“OMG New Foo Fighters!” – No one.
Kid Antiquity
Confederate Karma Police
Fuck. I was scrolling to see if anyone had thought of that and got excited until I saw Michael Caine and my dreams were crushed.
Seems like they were inspired by reworking Love Like a Sunset for Somewhere, which is pretty minimalistic and and not very poppy in that iteration. I’m sure it’ll be great.
I always think the intro sounds like MGMT’s “Electric Feel”
I vote to rename this Contrarian Corner.
“M.I.A.’s record is actually genius, you idiots!”
“Yeezy ain’t so hot.”
“Ugh, The Suburbs? I mean, come on.”
Coming up next week: The Beatles, Do We Need ‘Em?
So insanely good. Well beyond pastiche.
Nipples!
Agreed, but he’s also sort of socially inept in general.
When he was on Conan to promote 808s he told him he needed to pee in the middle of the interview. That’s not caution towards the media, that’s someone ill equipt to be on television in that capacity. Which again, is fine, but he’d be better off if he just let the music speak for him.
On a side note though, there’s always been a disturbing tendency for older white men to talk down to Kanye, whether it be Lauer or Leno, they both treat him like a “bad child” and it’s insulting to watch a grown man be talked to like that. He’s right when he points out they’re doing all that “TV stuff” because in the simplistic moral realm of TV, you have a breakdown followed by public apology and redemption. None of which are neccesary for a guy who said something emotional after a tragedy (something that’s far easier to defend than Bush’s inaction) and did a dumb thing at an awards show.
His talk show is available (in full) online and is worth seeing.
I saw it when it aired, and I was far to young to understand anything but I loved it and then saw him on Conan a few years later playing the piano, bearded and laughed so hard it hurt.
The final few episodes, after Galifianakis knows the show is cancelled, are among the weirdest and funniest hours of TV I’ve ever seen.
Also the movie’s pretty good.
That Laura Marling recording is great. I like her album but it definitely feels like it lacks a good producer. Maybe White will producer her next record? That would be great.
I actually liked that, and I don’t care for the album at all.
Weird.
Great song, great album, great actress.
Awful video.
I’ve tried to get into them, a friend is a big fan, but they’re so. fucking. boring. I don’t get it.
When they came back from commercial Dave seemed very pleased, and said “I enjoyed that” in a very pervy way. A+!

How could it not be?
I made a whole trip to NY to see the last two shows and never once regretted any part of it. It was beautiful week, two incredible shows.
I know they’re putting this out and then a full recording of the show, I wonder which one Spike Jonze was involved with. This looks like it was shot on the 7D and that’s what Jonze was carrying around the whole night. He was also interviewing people in MSG’s lobby before the show.
