seriously, Dude.
We don't think you're a fanboy. I, personally, think you're a troll, and the only thing sadder than proving me right would be proving me wrong.
I wonder what would happen if everyone replaced the hate for Skrillex with hate for The Black Keys (Disclaimer: I love the Black Keys). They're not doing anything new, most of their songs are three chords, neither member is great (maybe not even good) at their instrument, and they are arguably simplifying the same genre that spawned bands like Led Zeppelin. Oh wait...they're absolutely awesome to dance to...and the music is good enough that you don't have to think about it before you have the uncontrollable urge to move.
As someone who also has a dubstep DJ as a roommate, and who is also fronting a pop/jam band outfit, I have to respectfully disagree, Robert. While its definitely possible to make 'brostep' very quickly, the result of that (at least from what I've heard) usually sounds worse than you could possibly imagine. Every good dubstep song has almost as much work put into the composition as it does into the sound design. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a blind fan of Skrillex, and there are plenty of brostep-makers that make me want to plug my ears with bees, but I have to say that, as someone in a completely different sphere of music, Skrillex is writing deeper music than you seem to give him credit for.
Isn't it Yankee Hotel Foxtrot?
I was expecting to see Justin vernon in flannel wielding an axe with the Avalanches dead in a circle around him. Compared to that mental image, this is damn disappointing
I feel like they should do a top 25 in june, a top 50 in december, see how many bands that are loved in june are out of favor by wintertime. makes me wonder how long the albums from june to dec are going to stay on people's radars
Anyone else notice that the Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song are the same, but in a different order? Is it bad that i can't tell whether this is a misprint or if the Grammys are literally tying to package the same thing in two different ways?
Oddly enough it actually seems like he picked albums he was expecting to be good but didnt deliver. which makes me wonder about what he thought Lulu would be like.
"As someone who expects musical brilliance every time i listen to a muppets song, I am truly appalled that they didnt bring the same passion as Kurt and Nirvana" - Nobody (hopefully). '
Can i be the first to say I'm looking forward to more footage of random children playing in beautiful natural an deserted locales?
what about the one where you THINK theyre going to build it, but instead they keep it restrained for all 8 minutes
its still coming, it just needs a few months to brood first.
Honestly would any of us be shocked if Radiohead did something unusual by only visiting half the US? the last decade has been spent establishing that they can pull whatever sound/album release schedule/ridiculous thom yorke dance moves they want on us and we'll just blindly accept (myself included)
Hmm. one listen in, and I like it, he definitely avoided a sophomore slump. Also anything the Weeknd is involved in i just awesome. Toronto is on its way up, and im happy to be along for the ride
Boston just doesnt have a cool enough corporate sponsor for its stadium for Radiohead to come, i guess
Stereogum, if you make a Sigur Ros show happen I will surrender most of my worldly goods to you in exchange (only most of em because you wont want the rest)
This song makes me wish that I had a nicer car. And more women. And some kind of superpower. Just to keep up, you know?
guys leave RS alone! they had to do their 45-page op-ed on the mind of Rebecca Black, of course half-baked musicians like ?uestlove and Bon Iver are going to get the shaft.
I was going to call you out for Duchessing, but this may be a new low
Some people deal drugs. I make my money by selling Stereogum their daily fix of LDR.
Part of me is waiting for these two bands to admit that the whole thing is some kind of elaborate joke. I have to believe that some truly horrible decisions were made to get both Lou Reed and Metallica to such a low point. At this point, I want to say theres nowhere to go but up. Then I realize they'll probably tour this album, and I know we havent hit bottom yet
Do the 'Gum guys have any idea what four (plus one more for the site) KOL tracks we're going to hear on colbert?
Is it wrong to hope that Thom will whip out the dance moves from the Lotus Flower video at some point on this episode?
Miles better than Matt+Kim+Soulja+Andrew, but still in my opinion the weakest of Bon Iver's collaborations. Anyone else want to hear more from Gayngs?
Not to mention that all kinds of artist who "don't use autotune" use a program called Melodyne to correct pitches so that theyre 100% perfect for each track. Based on your comment, the Grammys would probably not exist
Agreed, Drake manages to stick faithfully to the rhythm here, I was very impressed. Now I'm off to cry about how the album wont download
Fair enough, I chose my words poorly when i said hypeworthy. My issue with Frank Ocean is that after listening to both his album and his efforts on Watch the Throne, nothing really sets him apart from the throngs of R&B singers with nice voices and a decent knack for lyrics. His fellow OF member Tyler has managed to set himself apart from the crowd (for better or for worse) in a way that I'm not sure Frank will ever be able to do.
being the most mature member of OFWGKTA is almost a negative. He is a solid singer, but there are better, and the 'maturity' winds up working against him because he lacks the love-em-or-hate-em aspect that makes OF hypeworthy to begin with. Not a bad artist, and his wordplay is above-average, but I'm not waiting expectantly for his next track like I am with most of his mates.
Love it or hate it, this song survives. I'm curious as to if people will still remember 'Chillwave' in 30 years. Im saying this as I'm listening to Washed out, so don't attack me :P
There is a fine line between a song that is vague enough to be interpreted differently by anybody and a series of meaningless words strung together because they rhyme nicely. Coldplay crossed that line at X&Y, crossed back for most of Viva La Vida, and seem to have jumped back to the dark side After the last album though, I'm still excited to hear how this one turns out.
