Think this sums it up perfectly. Especially considering WIXIW is my album of the year so far. It’s almost guaranteed that AnCo will deliver and I cant wait for the weirdness.
Lou Reed – Robots in Disguise
I don’t know how many Lynch films you, or anyone on here, have seen but Eraserhead is by no means his best film. While it is one of his most atmospheric works, the themes and narrative are much less complex than Lynch’s other films.
Yes it comes down to opinion, even more so when it comes to Lynch than other directors as his films can be so subjectively interpreted; I’d recommend though that you don’t consider Eraserhead the Holy Grail and you make some time for his other films if you haven’t watched them.
Elephant man is his best film in my opinion, it takes the Lynchian surreal elements from his other films and the beautifully shot black and white, then adds this to a more direct, linear narrative. Mullholland Dr is just as brilliant in a completely different way and Blue Velvet is worth watching for Dennis Hopper who creates the scariest on screen character ever. Also The Straight Story is a fantastic film despite being nothing you’d expect from David Lynch; It’s Disney produced, heartwarming tale about an elderly man’s journey to reconcile with his brother.
What I think i’m trying to say here is just watch them all.
(George Lucas was a fan of Eraserhead and, after seeing it, wanted to hire Lynch to direct Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.)
Can we not just make the gold toilet a weekly occurrence?
With a score like that sir you could well find yourself back in next weeks best comments section. If I don’t see this toilet same time next week I will feel cheated and betrayed.
Wasn’t sure how they’d pull the album off live, maracas may well be the answer. This is fucking ace.
Really like it, I was afraid they’d go too far towards the mellower songs (like Turner’s solo stuff) but they’ve kept the heavy sound and found a nice balance. The Arctic monkeys have a habit of making endlessly listenable albums, I didn’t think of Humbug as incredible but it was one of the albums I went back to most and am still listening to where other albums have faded.
I’m 19 and even my least musical friends probably know a fair amount about the Beatles. When discussing music no one out of 6 people had heard of Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Holly or Frank Sinatra however…
