Whoa whoa whoa — where is Rhye?!
I probably agree with ~70% of this list (in a different order), but ‘Woman’ is Top 10, you guys.

Also gonna add to the chorus of James Blake, Pusha T, DJ Koze, Baths, Charli XCX, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and Majical Clouz being overlooked (all in my Top 50). Also Thundercat! And Darkside! Too many great albums this year, I guess.
While on the complaints train, Arctic Monkeys have more business on this list than either Phoenix or NIN.

Always torn between championing an underdog or being honest with these things, but ultimately went with the latter this year:

BEST ALBUM
Kanye West – ‘Yeezus’
BEST SONG
Arcade Fire – ‘Reflektor’
BEST MUSIC VIDEO
Janelle Monae – ‘Q.U.E.E.N.’
BEST NEW ACT
Haim
BEST TV SHOW
Breaking Bad
BEST MOVIE
Upstream Color

I’m a little surprised that so many people thought this album would be decent — I guess the title set up false expectations? Aside from his verse on ‘Forever’, Eminem hasn’t been relevant for about a decade now. I would much rather listen to lazy, rich-guy Dad-rap from Jay-Z at this point, which is saying something.

The biggest disappointment here is Kendrick’s silly verse, which tarnishes his impeccable 2013 run worse than that lame Robin Thicke track.

Totally agree with this choice for AOTW, but really wish there was some space devoted to how damn great both Darkside and Pusha T’s albums are.

Also, with the ridiculous amount of ‘Yeezus’ references Stereogum has made this year, is there seriously any doubt at this point what AOTY will be?

p.s. Boards of Canada ‘Tomorrow’s Harvest’ and Jon Hopkins ‘Immunity’ are fast becoming favourites.

You know it’s been a good year in music already when the likes of Nick Cave, David Bowie, QOTSA, UMO, The Flaming Lips, Jim James and Thee Oh Sees don’t make the mid-year cut!

For what it’s worth, here’s my own Top 25 of 2013 thus far:

1. Vampire Weekend – ‘Modern Vampires of the City’
2. Rhye – ‘Woman’
3. Daft Punk – ‘Random Access Memories’
4 .My Bloody Valentine – ‘mbv’
5. Savages – ‘Silence Yourself’
6. Disclosure – ‘Settle’
7. The Knife – ‘Shaking the Habitual’

Huh, no love for Twin Shadow, Julia Holter, Wild Nothing, Django Django or Liars?
