haven’t gotten through them all but so far my favorite is Afghan Wigs doing The Police – I keep putting it on repeat, it’s pretty terrific…

Re: Proto-Emo.

I get why this isn’t include but I’d love to see a list of the late 80’s punk proto-emo songs. By the time the 90s emo thing happened, I had worn a bit down on the sound because I spent a lot of my time in high school with songs like these:

Dag Nasty – “Circle” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om7L_qIzl2A
7 Seconds – “Somebody Help Me Scream” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xm3mDUqUBtY
Uniform Choice – “Staring Into The Sun” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4lmyPLfRdo

There was a few years, I think it was 87/88, where all the hardcore bands put out their “pop” records and that’s really the prototype for the 90s emo sound, I think.
