They all made Uncut’s top 75
This was a really interesting read. I have to point out though that Giorgio Moroder was the first person to win an Oscar for a fully synthesized score for Midnight Express. It’s nowhere near as interesting as the score for The Social Network though.
A Familiar Taste also appeared previously on Ghosts as track 35 I think. The two versions are slightly different though I believe.
Just out of curiosity, which recording of the song are you referring to? Or are you just talking about the song generally?
Thank you for this list, I recently purchased the wholse lot off someone on ebay for tenner. Only listened to In on the Kill Taker properly. Was so floored by that I haven’t got to any of the others. If that’s only at number 6 the others must be incredible. Can’t wait!
Shoot, it was on Bridge wasn’t it. I so should’ve remembered that.
As a huge Modest Mouse fan, Tiny Cities was my introduction to his work. I can’t think of many musicians as capable of taking another work and moulding into something new and completely their own. I Am A Rock off Rollercoaster is another particularly beautiful example.
Wasn’t that produced by Daniel Lanois?
I’m slightly stunned Silkworm isn’t on this list. Just goes to show how many incredible albums he’s been involved with I suppose that such great stuff got left off
Saw him at Hammersmith last sunday. The cover of Bjork’s ‘Who Is It’ was really something to behold. Kathleen Edwards’ closing her support set with the Lips’ Feeling Yourself Disintegrate was pretty nice to hear too.
Going to have to go with Pet Sounds. For me the album is what Sgt Pepper should have been
Rubber Soul
Reed – Berlin
Metallica – Master of Puppets
Cold Roses all the way
Skeletal Lamping all the way :)
