Surprised by that as well. I had a really tough time choosing which CHVRCHES song to put in my top 10, actually. There's at least 3 on that record that I thought were deserving. Also good call on "Song for Zula". I had to go with "The Quotidian Beasts," but "Song for Zula" was right there with it.
Who downvotes somebody else's top 10 list when that's exactly what we're supposed to be doing here?
10. Haim - "Falling" 9. Lorde - "Royals" 8. Local Natives - "Colombia" 7. Phosphorescent - "The Quotidian Beasts" 6. MS MR - "Bones" 5. Autre Ne Veut - "Play by Play" 4. Charli XCX - "Nuclear Seasons" 3. Kurt Vile - "Wakin on a Pretty Day" 2. CHVRCHES - "Gun" 1. Junip - "Line of Fire"
Black Dahlia Murder, Skeletonwitch, and Revocation are all in my top 10 metal albums of the year. Bummed to not see them here.
LOL this list
Why would he look like a cross between Jeff Foxworthy and Owen Wilson?
Every Shining Time You Arrive. How It Feels To Be Something On. Those are pretty glaring omissions. In fact, the lack of Every Shining Time You Arrive pretty much makes this list bunk.
Yes. Hence the comment. God I hate internet tough guys.
It almost seems like he's talking more about the superior sound quality of vinyl than griping about the Spotify's low payouts.
Oh, man, this is good. I'm totally going to go listen to Breakers now.
I thought I read somewhere that they were from Texas and that it was just the band that was formed in Quebec, but now that I've looked again I see his wife is from there. I didn't know that. So...ignore the pretentious thing and pretend like I wasn't ignorant.
And I realize there was some of that on previous albums. It bothered me then, too.
Does the singing in French rub anyone else the wrong way? It comes off as WAY pretentious to me.
Ted sucks, but I've put too much time into this series to walk away now. I'm sticking with this shit show until the bitter end.
Thanks for the sweeping generalization. And what's wrong with listening to music on your phone, anyway? Are you too indie for Spotify?
I grew up in South Carolina, went to college in Tennessee, and then moved to Austin. I was generally surrounded by terrible asshole racist bigots for most of my life until I got to Texas. But...I don't know if you can really lump Austin in with the rest of the state. We're like a progressive hipster oasis.
Rihanna is dope, and I upvoted you. Solidarity.
Of course, this list could be made entirely of songs from Badmotorfinger and I'd be cool with it. Some of my favorites not listed here: 4th of July, Rhinosaur, No Attention, Drawing Flies, Slaves and Bulldozers, Holy Water, and Dusty. Shit...maybe I just love Soundgarden.
Um...Rusty Cage? Is this thing on?
Sorry, that escalated quickly.
You guys, I really like this show, and I feel like there's something wrong with me because of it, because everyone I know in both the real world and the e-world HATE it. My fiance's all, I'll sit here and watch it with you because I love you, because she's pretty much the best, but I can see the hate wheels turning the hate ticker in her brain. I don't deserve her, AND YOU GUYS DON'T DESERVE THE NEWSROOM.
Why is he dressed like the awkward IT guy down the hall from my office? Brian? Is that you?
I reserve judgments based on pilot episodes unless it's REALLY BAD. I've seen so many amazing shows that started out with awkward pilots I couldn't even name them all here. I mean, I could, but I have a life. This pilot wasn't really even all that awkward. I'm having faith that Kruger and the writers will work out the aspberger kinks as the show goes on.
Deafheaven - Sunbather. Can't stop listening to it. Close second is Kurt Vile's Wakin on a Pretty Daze.
Glad they're coming to Austin. Will have to jump on that.
Sure, I guess. I dig Kylesa. I just can't imagine the album of the week NOT being the new Baths album. But if we're intent on going metal, you can't leave Deafheaven's "Sunbather" out of the discussion. That record has been owning me all day.
I looked it up. It's not farting...
Nope. Let's NOT see what Al's up to. No thanks.
Can I 1 star Yelp review this thread, because nobody's playing the caption game! You guys!
I love how good these guys are at keeping things fresh without moving too far away from the core of who they are. I need to give this a few more spins before I really absorb it, but the first listen was impressive.
I went on an OKCupid date with a girl who claimed that song was written about her. Spoiler: it was not.
I want the vinyl, but I don't care enough to drop 200 bucks on a signed jewel-encrusted limited edition copy or whatever the hell. I hope he eventually releases a mass run at a reasonable price.
Very repetitive, like his older stuff. But this time not in a boring way. Looking forward to it.
I just got around to buying this on vinyl a couple weeks ago. And yes, I did play it on repeat for like 3 days. Took me back to sophomore year of college. Good times. Great oldies.
I'm your huckleberry. 16 bucks is ridiculous for a digital download. I opted or the vinyl package because you get the record, the CD, and a digital download for that price, which is totally reasonable. I don't care how long we've been waiting for this record, 16 bucks is gouging.
This is better than anything on his first album, and I REALLY liked his first album.
