I really dig the fact that you pointed out the Kendrick similarities. I think context plays a huge role in this record. Rappers are often influenced by their surroundings as much as their own stories and this is a time with various crews, essentially an era of crews. I feel like this song speaks to the time and allows Drake to also say “Hey, I did some work to get where I’m at” which is completely true if you look into it. He was legitimately an underground artist 1st.

As usual, you get the good jams from Claire Lobenfeld. Spot on review but I’d like to add that for some reason, this song reminds me of “Fantasy” by Mariah or the Tom Tom club song its derived from. Great song!

Beautifully stated and well defined ideas here. A pleasure to read, I look forward to the next one.
