Wait where are we getting 2/9 as the release date? It says 2/3 all over the PW Elverum and Sun site.

You can think the songs are terrible and lame all you want, that's fine by me. But to say Kanye just "stays the same"? That he's not evolving? I'm sorry, but this new material is NOTHING like anything he's done before. At least, nothing that I can think of. Compare this Kanye to the Kanye of 2 albums ago (or even 1 album ago, really) and it's so drastically different, both musically and in terms of his image.

These songs have me extremely excited. Diane Young is probably the least VW-like song VW has ever done, and it's still pretty great. Nitpicky typo: It's "Modern Vampire OF the City."

Glad this column started off with what might be my favorite album ever. Also, it's probably worth noting that Phil is reissuing all of the Microphones stuff on vinyl this year. Glow Pt. 2 reissue is out in July.

Good writing, and interesting list. Die-hard Sonic Youth fans are gonna argue with some of these spots like crazy, of course.. Rather Ripped is better than Bad Moon Rising, Goo, and Dirty? That's nuts to me. My top 3 would have to be Daydream Nation, Goo, and Bad Moon Rising.

Whatever happened to these guys being a Philly band? Guess it wasn't cool enough for them...haha

This songs seems more like a "great in context of the album" song. So when you judge it in terms of "Is this a great, catchy, definitive single?!" then of course you're disappointed. I think it's a pretty great tune that's only meant to grow on you.

Am I the only one who thinks this doesn't sound that similar? It's LCD-ish for sure, but not really any specific song.

Edit: She's from Lower Merion, also part of the Main Line outside Philly. She went to Bryn Mawr College. According to Wikipedia. Silly me.

Actually, I think Betty grew up in Pennsylvania. There was an episode where it was said she's from Bryn Mawr, which is a suburb of Philadelphia. Don also calls her a "Main Line tramp" or something like that. The Main Line is the collective name of a bunch of affluent suburban towns that run along the main rail line west of Philly.

Yeah I really don't think there will be many other non-Pet Sounds responses. So yeah....Pet Sounds.

Hmm. I go to college in Philadelphia as well, and I'd say these shots don't look a whole lot like Philadelphia, but they don't NOT look like Philadelphia? They kind of just look like "Any City, USA." I could see this being certain parts of Center City, or perhaps Old City.

Is it just me or are TV show performances sounding way better than they did a few months ago? I mean, as far as a the mix goes, at least. Like, Bright Eyes on Letterman? Couldn't believe that was live. And this sounds almost as good. It's kind of weird.

Ummm, Wolf Parade didn't officially "break up"? They're on an "indefinite hiatus," which in more honest terms might mean they broke up, but c'mon guys...

Apparently having anything negative to say, or not liking an album, means you're Pitchfork.

This kid is great. However, I feel like this song doesn't give the best impression of what he's about. "See Birds" and "Heavy Living Things" are fantastic.

Agreed. I actually really like the track, but it definitely doesn't translate well live. Pretty cool that Martin Rev is there though.

I'm really concerned as to why there's no orchestral arrangements in these songs, both here and in the videos that Pitchfork posted. I mean, it sounds pretty good, but they don't really feel like Arcade Fire anymore. I know that bands change and grow and everything, but I always felt like one of the biggest appeals (if not THE biggest) of Arcade Fire was the grandeur of their arrangements...
