Scream sounds like something Mugatu would've played when he's brainwashing Zoolander

November 17, 2015 on Watch Grimes Perform “Scream” With Aristophanes In NYC
Let me first say that I really like Deafhaven's music. With that out of the way, the problem to me is that they (or at least Sunbather) were marketed or reported by journalists as being black metal, when IMO they are very much more in debt to screamo bands like Envy (I say this as a fan of classic screamo/"skramz"). None of this has any effect on the quality of their music, so it doesn't really matter. It's just something that irked me about the way they're covered. The other, more obvious sticking point is that their image does not fit in the black metal tradition. And I think that is a huge issue for people expecting the classic image. If critics were a little more judicious in their genre labeling I think people would have a lot less of a problem with them.

It's cut off in this clip, but I loved when Buress came out afterword for the outro and strummed at Thundercat's bass with an almost childlike glee and Thundercat shot back an amazing "wtf are you doing/don't touch my bass" look

Wait how is hating Zach Braff misogynistic? Or is that the joke? I feel dull.

I wish writers would just stop calling Deafhaven black metal and just acknowledge they're screamo. There's basically nothing BM left in their sound. Their sound is essentially Envy with blast beats.
