I'm certainly not to come out on one side or the other here (though as a fan of their music I am very conflicted on how to feel about all of this), but I think what they're trying to say is something to the effect of everyone having different boundaries and lines of consent. Again, not mounting this as a defense of anything by any means. I'm just trying to decipher the phrasing myself and that's what I came up with.

The songs so far sound like they'll be revisiting the sound of Good Humor with the thematic heft of their last three albums. This is going to be awesome.

April 11, 2017 on Saint Etienne – “Magpie Eyes”
Yeah the singles so far have all been wonderfully St. Vincent-esque. Hoping for a little more in the vein of "Hadron Collider," though.

Surprised there's not even a mention of the new Nelly Furtado album out this weekend, produced by John Congleton no less.

"Hercules Theme" was actually one of the ones sung by Nomi Ruiz on that album. Agreed that the rest rank with ANOHNI's best songs though.

Y'all are going to make Nao this year's Susanne Sundfor, aren't you?

Susanne Sundfør finally gets an official Stereogum shoutout!

Yeah I was hoping they'd pull through for the shout this week too. Also quite into the new Junior Boys. It's easily their best since So This Is Goodbye ten years ago.

Looks like. Hell even Pitchfork gave up a "my bad!" for her via their honorable mentions for the year.

She was also one of the few stateside critics to champion Susanne Sundfør last year, which automatically grants her credibility. Still waiting on THAT mea culpa btw, Stereogum.

Yeah Katherine is generally pretty fair and favorable to pop music if you look at her portfolio. I'm not saying I agree with the review but she's not the type to just arbitrarily dump on things for the fun of it. Something about it obviously didn't click.

Anyone else beginning to wonder if this fuckface is just trying to Andy Kaufman everyone at this point?

Any idea why it's falling flat for you? Maybe it's because of where my head has been at lately but I'm loving the Grimes meets Shamir vibe of a lot of these songs.

Not even an honorable mention for Róisín Murphy? Weak sauce.

Anyone else get a Kate Bush/Sensual World vibe from that cover art?

March 2, 2015 on Carly Rae Jepsen – “I Really Like You”
Wow I'm surprised that Susanne Sundfør didn't get so much as a mention in that very long list for Ten Love Songs. Kate Bush meets Goblin grandeur with contributions from M83 and Röyksopp.

Not a bad pick but this week, it's all about Mitski for me.

I can see where Grouper might have left you cold. I definitely preferred The Man Who Died in His Boat and Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill. Arca, on the other hand, only gets better which each listen. Those discordant sounds and lurches create a delicious tension. That would definitely be my AOTW, with the new Korallreven being a slightly distant second.

About what? I was perfectly aware of his ability to cover 30 year old songs. Sorry Tim. THAT was sarcasm.
