Philip Cosores – By “compartmentalize”, I’m pretty sure you meant condense. If you compartmentalize something, that means you are taking it apart and separating it into different parts that you keep completely separate from one another.
Even disregarding grammatical errors, I feel like you just don’t know how to listen to music. Like everyone else who writes for Stereogum. I feel like it’s all about what’s cool. Have you ever listened to music and just heard the musicianship and the lyrics without throwing the group into some sort of box?
Maybe you should try it.
Crazy. I literally like all of the same songs you like. Definitely Tecumseh, Colorado, and Mother.
“racing to the finish line”… i meant “plods toward the finish line”. I just think that statement is strange.
I think “Takk…” is way too good to be as low as it is. I don’t understand the write-up on that album at all – “Milano” and “Andvari” racing to the finish line? Of all the songs on the album, “Milano” has made me almost crash my car more than any of the other songs on Takk. I’ve literally beaten my steering wheel into itself. And then comes “Svo hljótt”, possibly my favorite song they’ve ever created.
This list is so bizarre to me.
I love at 4 min mark “Simmer down, simmer down, simmer down”… reference to Mos Def. So awesome. Great performance. Roots are such a good backing band. It always blows my mind.
In my opinion, their entire career as a band has been one long hot streak.
Funny – I like her vocals in this. Kinda feels more deep in the chest like Neko Case or something.
I’m surprised everyone seems to like this song more than “Demons”… I like “Demons” more than this song.
You might have been joking…but…it’s “Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers”.
About Today might be my face song of theirs.
She is so hot.
You never did fix the post title.
What are you guys talking about? Boring? I thought this was amazing.
This is amazing.
You’re kidding, right?
My sentiments exactly – staring out into the sea and dreaming aimlessly while listening to anything Kozelek. Excited for his Album Leaf collab.
Yep. My fave Strokes song as well. Definitely think Soma is one of their most infectious songs!
It’s “Wakin On a Pretty Daze”…. not Walking….
Get your shit straight.
I couldn’t agree more, but like “oblivion” said, that is what all the S Gum writers do. It can get really annoying at times.
Well, this won’t be on Overgrown. “And Holy Ghost” is a b-side.
I was just kidding. Sorry.
