This is clearly being done in the interest of getting more Kickball Katy boobage. http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_liiqykcE1M1qgv3alo1_500.jpg ...which I fully support.
Riot Act isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. It's the only Pearl Jam album released in the last decade I can listen to. I think its because it veers so wildly between styles, like Vitalogy did. The self-titled album is a boring retreat into their first two records, and Backspacer just wasn't interesting to me in any real way. I'll also agree with an earlier poster that Binaural is also severely underrated. It's a great melancholy album, but that isn't what people want from Pearl Jam, so the album gets unfairly trashed.
It was so good that the dude from Nickelback decided to rewrite it for Spider-Man!
Y'know, that Toad the Wet Sprocket jab would work a lot better if Stereogum didn't promote artists like Best Coast who are as twee as Toad was at their worst.
...AND MICHAEL HANNA BUSTS OUT THE STEEL CHAIR! OHMYGAWD! THIS IS A HELLACIOUS BEATING!
He's clearly just a big fan of Zombies Ate My Neighbors.
No, you're the referee.
!!! I can't think of a better way to describe it.
Michael_ vs. Michael Hanna: THE MICHAELS EXPLODE! AT MICHAELMANIA!
I downvoted you because your opinion is different than mine. And this I cannot abide.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rap#History Apparently, this rap shit is a "thing" the kids listen to. But don't worry, I hear it's just a passing fad. We'll all be listening to Dan Fogelberg again in a few weeks.
Drugs are a helluva drug.
I'm a troll because I disagree with someone's opinion? God, you people are children. What exactly was cruel about my opinion?
Please explain how Born to Die, a pastiche of Nancy Sinatra vocal affectations over chopped trip-hop beats and swelling string arrangements, is the most original, fresh, amazing album?
The band is boring. The only time I ever found the Dirty Projectors interesting was when they did their Black Flag rework Rise Above, and that was because it was a twee take on angry, angry music. But the novelty quickly wore off a few tracks in. I get that everyone in the band is technically gifted, but the jazzy guitars, R&B rhythms, and Longstreth's tendency to drift towards scat vocals annoy the fuck out of me. I like all three separately when used by other groups but the combination that Dirty Projectors make is grating. On the other hand, I found Animal Collective's detour into pop music fascinating. "My Girls" is either the best joke a band has played on it own fanbase to see what they'll tolerate, or the best genuine attempt an indie band has made at making a pop crossover without altering its core principles. Most people like Animal Collective because they're always weird. Well, that was certainly the weirdest thing they could have done at that time.
I'm so used to people downvoting for the dumbest reasons that I sort of assumed any negative opinion was going to get that reaction. I guess the majority of 'gum commenters have learned self-restraint.
When you say the new Dirty Projectors album is so good that's really just a euphemism for really really boring, right? Because it is. Extremely boring. Downvote away, peoples.
How was Yoshimi their first commercial hit? "She Don't Use Jelly" was enough of a hit on MTV and rock radio that the Flaming Lips played on 90210. You even reference that fact for your number one.
"Nutshell" and "I Stay Away" would probably be my picks for their best song, especially the former which captures Layne's voice in all its tormented glory.
Ten has only aged terribly because of the shit bands that came after it that all tried to ape its sound. Pearl Jam should not be held responsible for Bush or Creed or Nickelback. Had modern rock radio not decided to dictate a very specific, narrow sound for the last twenty years then I think Ten wouldn't seem dated to as many people as it now does.
It's like, I think this is a really good idea, but it's not really a good idea, you know? I'm all "Yeah guys, I love it!" But then I'm also sort of "Dudes, this sucks." So on one hand I'm totally for this but then on the other I'm totally against it.

Already flying too far under the radar for my liking. Great album. Love the general dark romantic pop/vintage Echo & the Bunnymen esthetic he's going for.
This is the best thing Billy could have done. He should start pissing on more bands. It will stop him from pissing on his own band's legacy.
Awesome minstrel show. Amos n' Andy would be proud.
Is this like in punk where the real punk rockers were actually The Knack since they sold out and told everyone they sold out so selling out was punk as fuck because it was rebelling against the idea of authentic punks not selling out when really they were the biggest sell outs of all the sell outs because they never sold out and made a big deal about not selling out which made them look petty and childish for not selling out?
Our corporate overlords (i.e. the old white guys who tell us what to like) are becoming very cynical. Coincidentally, I LOVE THIS!
You should post more. As long as I don't have to see it. See what I did there?
Watching these videos makes me want to go to the X Games, drink lots of Surge, watch meaty bros hit each other with steel chairs, and replace S's with Z's in every word!

I'm really glad your women's studies class agrees. I don't know if I could've formed my own opinion without their approval.
