It's like an incredible version of Frightened Rabbit.
The Black Country New Road album is easily the standout album or 2022 so far. I compare it to Arcade Fires first stab. It's really something else.
Solid band for 10 years leading up to that though, so to label them as peaking is a bit of a slight. Mothers Milk was a ripper. I personally loved One Hot Minute. RHCP do not deserve the snarky comments that are being hurled out here. Fun, charismatic, talented, crossed over with a weird sorta grace and and pretty much always stayed on their own course. They simply outgrew their brand.
This is an ignorant way to look at it. This is an artists stance and thats ok because they believe their stance is righteous. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
People need to separate the Rogan anger from the artists getting Spotify money frustration. It's two separate wars. If there is to be change it should be artists protesting the awful way they are being paid for this company to promote their music.
Rogans getting 100 mil from Spotify. Obviously they can't or won't pull him off because it's good for their business. When the pandemic hit and Spotify stock soared they had a real chance to help the struggling artists because of the fact bands couldn't tour and had no way to generate income survival other that streaming, come out and say hey we know COVID has killed you and what were going to do is give a little back to help by increasing your share and they simply chose not to. Their response was we'll make more music to increase your traffic which is just bullshit. This isn't a Rogan thing it's a money grubbing ignornant business choice on behalf of Spotify. The fact Neil is protesting is purely political and they are wrong. They should pivot their stance and demand spotify recognizes the artist at this point but they won't. What I think is happening now is that bands tied to record labels can't make a move and are trapped because the deals they signed tie into the traffic they generate in Spotify...and it just sucks now because the company is exposed but can't do anything about it.
This is why shows like this should be shot live. Ratings would soar.

Is there a strange thought when this album is ready, they'll just drop it without any warning. Seems odd they are dropping singles without a clear album release date. Its as if they are trolling singles.
Knowing about this Forbes dynasty says a lot...almost seems as if this Grizzly Bear idea has turned into more of burden to him than a commitment at this point.
I always wonder (speculate) the reason they could possibly be on the outs is due to the fact they are maybe frustrated with the income not matching the hard work put into Grizzly Bear album productions. Seems like work real, real hard to put out extremely their hefty albums and not get the traction it deserves in return. Maybe I'm wrong and they are filthy rich grizzlies, but my completely outrageous guess is that Rossen does it for the passion and maybe Droste is getting tired of their sound and fury ending up not signifying the return it deserves for the work put into it. I know this...its not all cake for highly praised indie darlings that stick to their philosophy and never give in to selling out.
We are talking about a musician who concealed her face to somehow try and hide from being a celebrity and attempt to think it'd allow her privacy. Stability and havin rhino hide against criticism aint gonna be one of her strengths.
War beats it merely based on Seconds alone. Semantics tho, really.
If I could just make a comment on 2 Chains album title choice... https://media.giphy.com/media/5EWXn67F3uqoILvEsC/giphy-downsized-large.gif
I mean, can this thing just go away please?
This is a man who says he's going to release albums on specific dates, then unabashedly pulls a Lucy on Charlie every time. To fuck with the consumer, the people that are supporting your career and purchasing your material like that is reason alone to send this chooch away. Its like buying a ticket to see a movie premiere and when you sit down in your seat, someone says, 'Oh, we're not playing that movie now. Maybe next week.'
2022 is starting off just fine...
All need to pump the brakes here and stop jumping the shark with this single...it's simply an introduction to what is sure to fit in with the scope of the album. It's simply a really well made song designed to whet an appetite and an introduction to what is to come. Clearly he knows what he's doing and if this things a grand ole concept album this single will only be a fraction of what the end result will give us.

Man, based on many of these comments, the opinions of beloved FJM seem to have veered off a little which is sorta BS, or maybe this is a new batch of Gummers and we are evolving, who knows. Far as the song, I'm torn here....I kinda was hoping for a rock record, like a Hiss Golden Messenger vibe but with teeth. Or, maybe this track is some fallin action deneoument on the second half of a concept album about some chick named Chloe in which case, I'm so in. Either way, good to have ya back dad.
This is like when I waited all that time for The Godfather Pt III, and then when it finally came I was like....well that wasn't worth the wait.
If you are stupid enough to confess something in a song relating to murder etc, then my bet is you've either made, or will make plenty more ego centric mistakes that'll take you down well before your song gives possible additional 'ammo' to the prosecution.
It's not a question of chasing charts...really don't think they intend to do that. There's just a great band that share no excuses anymore and just really don't fit into today's scene. If they maybe just stripped down and made a rock record it could be different but they're just out of gas to try and pull that off at this point. They should just pull a Stones and tour 12-14 dates and play to the core fan base at this point.
Just go ahead and throw Ragged Glory on and it'll do the trick
Not so sure I'd identify it as 'mixing up the sound,' its more like 'evolving their sound.' Or, maybe that means the same thing I dunno. All I know is that these girls are way beyond their years and can do no wrong as they grow.
When you are talking about a crowd surge where, even aside from the 8 lives horribly lost, you are on a stage where your vantage point is better than anyone, and can easily see something not good is happening right in front you, you stop your fucking show immediately and do everything in your pea brain mind to slow it down. We're talking about over 300 people being treated and medical crews overwhelmed so its obvious this could be seen as trouble ahead.. Stopping it, stopping the music, turning up the lights, using the microphone to halt everything should have been the only thing going on. None of that was done which means he allowed it to continue and that, dipshit Grapefruit Soda, is the definition of incite.
For those who think this album is on the same trajectory as their last few albums are missing some really incredible and subtle differences. This is really special. Easily top 5 of the year. They are a band at the top of their game.
If the last two minutes of this song is regarded as 'parody,' then keep pumping this into my veins. And is drone-y, cinematic, 80's twinged pysch rock, cinem aint your thing then move along, more seats for us when they come around
Its kind of a goofy album that can, at times, be all over the place and other times settle into some gorgeous jams. So, in other words, its your standard MMJ release.
Betcha thats where it was, not sure theres an actual 'beach' there. To give you an idea, Billy Andrade was honored as collegiate player of the year some years back, and he decided, hey I'm going to hop on a ferry and go check this place out...walks into the clubhouse, nicely says, "I'm Bill Andrade, collegiate player of the year and PGA member, I'd love to play your course." The pro behind the desk simply ask, "Are you with a member?" Andrade says, "No?" and the pro promptly lets him know the next available ferry time back to CT. "Sorry, but you can only play with a member."
I've been blessed enough to play Fishers Island golf course a number of times which is about exclusive as it gets (hailed as the Pebble Beach of the East) and the only thing on the 12 mile long island besides a middle school, oyster beds and insanely large or beautiful homes. Very unique place.
Bumped into a great song this week... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2RQ2JfpQwM
