Word. This reads like an apology for all the hype. Who exactly are these “indie-rock stalwarts embracing their love of Katy Perry songs”? And did Stereogum just compare these two to the Pixies? REALLY!? I think you’re trying too hard to like it.

Umm… no Stereogum, the Fiona Apple comparison is not apt. We get that you need to double down on your previous hype about Lana, because the alternative would be admitting you got a little ahead of yourselves. And the cop-out that you’re basically just putting it out there for people to decide isn’t flying. Fiona Apple plays an instrument. Fiona Apple writes her own songs. Fiona Apple is Fiona Apple’s real name. She isn’t a carefully crafted character created by a production team. You’re really starting to lose credibility here guys.

ok, as much as i agree she was created in a lab to destroy us all, she got me with “pabst blue ribbon on ice”

What this song needs is coke and lots of it. Really phoned it in.

The thing about her music is that you need to actually listen to it. Not everyone is going to “get” it. It is the most sincere and original album of the year, period. Speaking of Pitchfork, their headline for this performance was “Joanna Newsom Brings Funny Faces to Kimmel”. Seriously. Yeah, that’s what she brought. Anyone wondering when that site lost all credibility could start there.
