“Post” is a excellent choice for a tribute album and you guys always seem to do a great job assembling just the right mix of bands for these things. That Dirty Projectors cover is fantastic – I think it sets the stage well for what the rest of the songs might sound like.

Just one thing though…do you all have to come to some kind of consensus on which records to tackle or is it just that you all naturally gravitate towards the same choice from the start?

I tried so hard to like this album. And it only pisses me off, because I feel like Jack White knows he’s one of the music industry’s golden boys and he’s letting it go to his head. This is one of those instances where people will faun over the final product because of who is producing the music, rather than ever examining the actual content. (for other examples see “In Rainbows”). I mean, did he even try with this project?

I once lived in an apartment complex where I was accosted in the parking lot at 4AM by a meth addict who was eating a bag of peanuts and waiting for his dealer. He only spoke to me because he thought I was a cop, and I’m positive he hadn’t showered in two weeks. He also claimed to be afraid of “the shadow people” (an apparent effect on one’s vision from the meth and also a sign of possible blindness).

So in this case, risiculous doesn’t quite accurately capture encountering a meth addict in the wild.

So who is bold enough to admit that this album is just sub par, and that all of Jack’s creativity obviously went into “Icky Thump.” Seriously, this album jumps from one trite and/or cringe-worthy lyric to the next, and after four spins I’ve just accepted that these sessions didn’t produce anymore than three songs that stuck me in the same way their entire debut album did. But alas, I know I’ll be blasted for ragging on Jack White, so bring on the hate fest.

Well the lyrics are still full of what I call “Gibbardsms,” but overall I love the song and the production is impeccable as always.
