true. but what is the pay-off other than some people “getting it”? You get it, I get it, and aren’t we great for getting it. But then what?* *ss a question that does not at all invalidate Parks and Rec, or your comment, in any way! but it did creep into my thoughts on these references :)

Very meta indeed, and it puzzled me. I liked the references to IJ, but really didn’t see the point. Was it that people like me would respond excitedly to them? And that seems the kind of hip tongue-in-cheekness dfw wasn’t a big fan of. So yeah. How much of a tribute is that?

i loved parks and rec - did anyone notice all the references to Infinite Jest by the way? They were all over the place: the attorneys called gately, wayne, kittenplan, troeltsch, the mayor of Partridge called Stice, the C. T. Tavis fertility clinic? There was even a Fackelman in it? This stuff gets me way more excited than I should probably be!

ok, i am only now registering the obvious daniel tosh reference there. still that somehow doesn’t it make it feel right to me, or something. but I’ll stop whining and check in on the awesomest breaking bad review of the whole internets and that will make me feel so much better (I hope it has pictures of Jesse tearing up)

I can’t agree more with the sentiments expressed here. rape is rape, and a woman’s right to choose is a woman’s right to choose. i just got a little upset with gabe saying this guy should be raped (in his face/mouth?). I know it is probably meant to be funny and I am probably a humorless feminist, but I think it is wrong to use the word “rape” as a punchline, or as a metaphor for how much someone is wrong (which he obviously is) and how someone should shut up. Rape is hurtful, and seeing the word tossed around for the sake of rhetorics can be hurtful, too. At least that is my opinion, and I would like to hear yours. but otherwise - great writing, and thanks for addressing this asshole’s hateful bullshit.

so how abut this psychoanalytically sort of inspired interpretation of that image? seems to me like you’re supposed to think he’s looking at the mannequins - one naked, one dressed like a housewife (betty?) - but really he’s trying, in looking/“gazing” at women to arrive at a notion of who he himself is (as a bounded, whole person) as he’s really looking at himself in the window. Of course he only sees the dog in himself. Isn’t this what last season has told us about him and his relationships? i.e. his inability to relate to other human beings, esp. women, and his past as something to distance himself from (at great cost)... Don is also really starting to remind me of that other great tv personality unable to ever really relate to other human beings, even though he tricks you into thinking he is, that is, tony soprano..

i have the feeling drinking each others' blood at the same time is like getting to fifth base in the true blood universe. it's so sexy! (also not a good metaphor)

amidst all the vampires and werewolves and witches and fairies, and all the soft porn involving eric and sookie, the fact that lafayette's DIDN'T say aww hell no was just the most confusing to me, too. very surprising and original writing. very good show. - me.
