Um, it’s kind of hard to “hang with the rest of society” (…really?) when that society has marginalized you for centuries. I’m not gay, but I wouldn’t want to “hang with the rest of society” if the rest of society is as ignorant as you. Go read a fucking book, man.

You’re going to cite a comedian on why words cannot harm and “have only as much power as you give them”? That’s really convincing.

If you want to go at this from an intellectual level, how about you read some Saussure, Foucault, Culler, Lacan, Derrida, et al, on how language defines both how we perceive reality and ourselves and then try to tell me words are harmless.

Dude, have you ever been to the South? Obviously not. Calling southerners ignorant is an ignorant statement in itself. And no, I’m not from the South, I was born and raised in San Diego.

I don’t think it’s a question of “selling out” or caring that pre-teens are listening to the same music as the 20-something crowd (I personally, could care less). It has to do with equating ‘good’ music with an awful franchise that exists only to suck money out of the parents of said delusional pre-teens. It’s worse than putting art on the same level as kitsch. It’s like equating a Dalí or Picasso piece to dog shit.

I’m not typically bothered by the “commercialization of indie rock” or bands selling out or any of that bullshit, but this is just ridiculous. Soundtracks are wonderful because they pair two art forms in a way where each informs the other. To pair actually talented artists making complicated and progressive music with a shitty money-scheme like Twilight is to drag the names of these bands through the mud, in my opinion.

So would that count as reverse sexism?

Excuse me, two *power* chords, and one open chord from the looks of it. Any 14 year old with a Squier can pull that shit.

Guitar and bass are completely different instruments. You said it yourself. As a musician, she looks awkward with the guitar–even while on playing two very simple open chords. I’m not saying she’s a bad musician, just a bad guitar player.

Looks like he doesn’t know what to do with himself.

Also, am I the only one who doesn’t get the buzz surrounding these guys? Seems like pretty standard stuff.
