AWESOME.
AMAZING. Can’t wait for the vinyl to show up on my doorstep.
That little vocal break-down thing he does around 2:30 reminds me of the “ooh, ahh, guess you never meant it” part in the song, “By the Way”. It’s so identical – they had to’ve done it on purpose.
Man. She is so great.
That was pretty awesome. The lighting was incredible.
Yesssssss
I’m super duper confused with the lack of Feist, Ryan Adams, Iron and Wine, My Morning Jacket, Wilco, Wu Lyf, Beirut, and Radiohead on almost every one of the lists I’ve seen this year (SPIN, P4K, Stereogum…) Paste Magazine seems to be the only website that I agree with.
Am I the only one who thought this video kicked major ass. I’ve watched it 3 times today. It has such a fun and explosive presence about it… and no, not because the girl is literally exploding things.
Jacksonville City Nights!
Yeaaaa… probably my favorite performace they’ve done of this song…. and that’s saying a lot, because I scour Youtube for every performance I can find of this song.
Great great setlist. It’s funny…. his encore was comprised of 3 songs that are all the last songs on his records…. “Let’s Not Shit Ourselves” (last song on Lifted…. “Road To Joy” (last song on I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning)…. and “One for You, One for Me” (last song on The People’s Key)….
Where do I watch it? Am I missing something…
The part where he throws the bird is really cool, by the way.
Is this not Ireland? Everyone is saying Iceland.
I didn’t like the song until I saw this video. Now I like the song. I think this video is really great. It’s refreshing to see that Kiedis still has a very entertaining stage presence.
That video is awesome. I love it. It’s very well-done. And the song is obviously great.
You mean “Strawberry Swing”?
Is it because you feel like you are in a dentist office? That’s how I feel. But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing…. I think I like it a lot. I love the whole record and “Beth/Rest” I can see possibly growing on me.
Loving it.
Well, every music publication covers Kanye West. So Stereogum shouldn’t cover him?
Stereogum should only cover the bands no one has heard of? Why?
He never seizes to put me in the best mood ever. And I just like the way he writes. He seems to use a lot of harsh “s” sounds in his lyrics, which gives the rhythm more direction. And he puts a lot of emphasis on his “s”s when he sings them. Especially in “My Night With the Prostitute from Marseilles”.
I don’t know if anyone knows what I am talking about. I like it a whole lot.
Gotcha. Cool.
“Calgary” is really incredible, in my opinion. I think I started really really liking it when I trekked over to songemeanings.net to review people’s opinions of what the lyrics are. I think it’s probably the most obscure song he’s written, if you are excluding Volcano Choir. He most definitely comes up with the most interesting way to word everything he’s talking about, which kind of reminds me of Cormac McCarthy or something, where you put an adjective in front of noun that wouldn’t typically make sense, but makes sense in context. Which I love. And I totally knew he uses auto-tune all over For Emma, which I didn’t recognize until I heard Deyarmand Edison and solo Vernon stuff. His voice is most definitely more live-sounding on his earlier year records. And I guess I was thinking his voice is more auto-tuned on Calgary (which it really isn’t) than it appears on For Emma, but I guess that’s because the instrumentation in Calgary is a lot more “synthy” and Peter Gabriel-ish than it was on For Emma, which makes it sound even more produced-sounding.
To add to the Cormac McCarthy lyrical comparison, I think more along the lines of what I was trying to describe is how both Vernon and McCarthy use nouns as adjectives, which adds a very interesting rhythmic swoon to the vocals. I think Vernon also uses a lot of assonance, which sounds like rhyming, but never Seussical (obviously).
Sorry, I meant “Bon Iver, Bon Iver” by Bon Iver.
Are you sure? If that’s true, then why is it just “Bon Iver” on Amazon and Wikipedia? Where are you seeing that it’s “Bo, Iver, Bon Iver” by Bon Iver?

Techically, it’s just “Fleet”! If you’re filling in the blank.
