Was the National's "Boxer" more of an American thing?
I think Sports Night had a laugh track for 4-5 episodes, then went with a live studio audience for the rest of the first season, then went without for the second season.
Who wants to bet that the new record is called "Wilco (The Album)"?
Phoenix are like a French equivalent to Death Cab for Cutie. I don't mean that in a pejorative sense at all, it just suits where their sound is now.
I was a big fan of Ladytron's last album, so I am digging this so far. Along with Neko Case, atop my "highest expectations" list for 2009.
This is probably one of my top 10 most-anticipated albums of the year. They're one of those bands I feel I can trust to deliver a quality record. So far, so good.
Thank you. I'm in the pro-U2 camp but I'm just not feeling this one at all. Looking back, I don't know why people dump(ed) on "Vertigo" so much: I liked it to begin with, but compared to this, it's a lean little masterpiece.
I'm not gonna hate; I'm really looking forward to hearing this. I won't even begrudge them for some extremely silly song titles. Count me in.
The dogs in the video look more like French bulldogs than pugs, but I digress.
I think you're thinking of Ben Folds. He's on his 4th marriage.
Emmett Kelly? or Jesus?
Blitzen Trapper will be on the albums list, don't worry.
Lightspeed Champion, wow.
She & Him actually was a pretty nice little record, probably a top 25 for me this year. It's just funny that mood-wise, it's about as far from "Boxer" as one could get. #38 on this list is a pleasant surprise.
Well, I liked Easy Tiger, and that was concise, focused, and unadorned, so my hopes are high.
It hasn't been a popular position for me to take, but I like this Cold War Kids track more than what they've done in the past.
I knew it looked familiar, thank you. I actually like the color scheme on the UK cover and had hoped it would be the US version too.
I was hoping for "Little Lies", but Ezra still does a great job of holding those notes.
Newman's new album had better be released under the "A.C." moniker, otherwise this is going to really screw up my iTunes.
Why so serious, Robert?
HIs last album was good, but like CTA said, it lacks those "crack high sugar rush[es]" that he's so so good at. So I look forward to the new material. Now, to listen to the new song.
OK folks: you're trapped with either this or that Buckcherry song for the rest of your life. Which do you choose?
What do you know, B's review turned out to be completely accurate!
I agree, this was a really great installment. Great band, too.
Wow, Dr. Dog getting a lower score than CSS is bullshit in just about every way. But hey now, this isn't the place to rip on P4K... I'm glad this kid is being such a good sport about it.
The key with the Mercury prize is to pick the most unlikely/left-field nominee. My money is on Estelle.
You basically said everything I was trying to convey, but you said it much better and weren't a dick about it. Kudos.
There's no way to say this without me sounding like someone from the American Family Association, but Folds' swearing stopped being remotely funny years ago. "Hardy har, I wrote a song with 'bitch' in the title, you better look out, I'm gonna say 'fuck'!" I think he's genuinely talented when it comes to melodies, and when he can even write some decent lyrics when he acts like an adult rather than a moronic frat boy. I'm going to get downvoted for this, but it needed to be said.
Armageddon. Armageddon. Armageddon. The worst movie of all time, bar none.
If this is the case, it's almost too good to be true. "Mutations" and "Sea Change" are still my favorite two Beck albums.
I concur with Pearl Jam's "World Wide Suicide". The National's "Fake Empire", too.
I thought you were initially joking when you said Kelly Clarkson finished ahead of "OK Computer". I mean, she has her moments, but seriously? Seriously? It's not so much the selections as the order that's completely inexplicable. It honestly looks like the EW editorial staff put 100 albums from the last 25 years in a hat and drew them out at random. "Turn On the Bright Lights" over "Surfer Rosa"?
The record is wonderful. But I'm off to shoot myself in the skull because the only one I can identify is "Singles Going Steady".
I don't feel like this is a 'comeback' in the slightest, but I do feel this is a make-or-break proposition for Beck. 'Guero' and 'The Information' each had their moments (and they each have their fans) but neither of them exactly blew up the charts or the critical world. All the pieces are in place for this to be the album of the year, but there's part of me that can't help but think that anything *less* than the album of the year will be a potentially career-damaging letdown for Beck. These are just my thoughts; anyone else see what I mean?
And to think the album isn't even out yet. That's what blows my mind. This is a pretty awesome discussion of an album that *hasn't been released*. I know times have changed, even in the last 2-3 years, but wow. Thanks for ruining Beach House for me, Cale.
I don't know where along the line I started to hate Chris Martin's voice, but there's something about this that makes my skin crawl. I won't hate (I liked the first two albums) and I wish these guys all the best, but I won't be lining up for this one. Some bands you just outgrow.
Jesus Christ, what a terrible album cover. Totally looking forward to the album, though :)
Are you sure that "Eddie Vedder" drawing isn't actually Meat Loaf?
