I think this is a great REM album. It’s consistent from beginning to end. I disagree with the reviewer that the strongest tracks were the ones showcased before the official release. I think each of this albums 12 tracks is a contender for best on the album. I can’t think of another album I love where every single track can be my favorite at any given moment. In terms of their cumulative output, I think REM is arguably the greatest rock band since the 1960s. I would never say “Collapse Into Now” is the greatest REM album, but I think it’s about as good an album as a band of their age has put out. A worthy addition to one of the great catalogs in rock history.
