I have a feeling this album is just going to keep delivering the goods for every summertime celebration.
Also, the new Liars is up on NPR to stream as well.
“‘I was worried that some people expected me to come out looking like Little Bo Peep or something,’ Grace said after the show while hanging out at the merch table with her wife, Heather. (They’re doing the tour as a family; their toddler daughter, Evelyn, was sleeping with a nanny in the tour bus.)”
That pretty much sums up my reaction — Neither shocked nor really expecting much of a transition so quickly. I guess?
I kept passing this over reading it as “JAILL” and not Jail Weddings, who are pretty good! Glad to see them getting some wider exposure. I bought Love Is Lawless on cassette a couple of years ago, which is beautifully dark and melodic. This holds its own in that regard.
The new JEFF the Brotherhood EP which is four songs off their upcoming Warner Bros. debut that’s apparently coming out in July is up on Spotify. I imagine the new found major label love has pushed them to give up the classic rock rippers and concentrate solely on their early Weezer homaging. I need to hear the entire LP now to make a decision on how I feel about that, because it can be too much of a good thing.
The only part that you left out and that nobody has been aware of as to why this whole thing has given me a serious case of the emos is how I was hoping that my volcano project would give me extra credit points on my report card so that I get out of the school I currently go to. It’s an all-male boarding school, all my classmates are near the age of retirement, they don’t talk to me, can’t relate to me and they hate technology. If I use my smart phone to check my e-mail, I get hit across the wrists with a wooden ruler, so now I can not only not study what I want to study but I can’t keep in touch with the outside world for most of my waking life during the week. It’s almost like a juvenile hall.
Other than that, the story made me feel slightly better and I thought it was very well written.
I prefer the phrase “perpetually emo.” I’m more emo than rub-john’s haircut.
And I’m sorry, but it’s very obvious that I can’t get over something that happened on here well over a month ago regarding a certain guest post. I just cant, even when I had them delete the guest post itself. I don’t think I ever will. That thing meant a ton to me. None of you probably understand it or where I’m coming from. I’m going to be talking about it until I get banned for just being flat out annoying about it or something. It broke my heart and I felt like I got screwed over, and I’ve been trying to pick myself up on here for — what? — like a month now? And I can’t get it done. That whole incident just put me down and made me feel so dejected and discouraged. I can’t find a way to get closure for it. Cue the downvotes. I don’t even care. I’m evil for having a heart or some shit apparently.
Note: Apparently if you type “8″ followed by “)”, it makes that sunglass guy up there.
Let Uncle Michael_ give you some pointers, Armando on how you can secure your rise and demise here on the Stereogum comment section:
1) Begin your commenting career as a troll
2) Reveal yourself a few weeks later to be someone who always had good intentions, but were too afraid to be kind out of fear of not being accepted
3) Begin to post well-written, positive-sounding comments. Send tips to tips@stereogum.com to boost your credibility with both the readers and writers
4) Stay humble as you climb your way up the Best Comments list ladder
5) Once you realize you are a comment section “denizen,” HAVE A MELTDOWN OVER SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO YOU
6) Lose all respect from Stereogum and commenters
7) Apologize for meltdown
Attempt to write well-written, positive-sounding comments, but accept the fact that you were right from the beginning: You will never be accepted
9) Commit suicide, because if a music blog comment section can’t like you and you are posting comments on a Friday night at 12:13am, you obviously have no life or purpose and should just end it all.
Enjoy! Goodbye!
You guys didn’t know? My whole incomprehensible shtick has just been one huge Liars promo this entire time. ALBUM COMES OUT JUNE 5TH ON MUTE RECORDS BUY IT EVERYWHERE
In the grand tradition of the Best and Worst Comments turning into a aggro pileup in recent weeks, this comment I made last week got buried and probably was unnoticed by many since even my rational, nice posts get downvoted nowadays, so I’m syndicating it for finality’s sake. Much like this weekend unofficially starts summer, I’m unofficially opening up the pool for donnytilla to pee in and declaring as of right now a return to sunnier, warmer (and yellower?) days here on Stereogum:
“Can we all just agree to just kind of start over?
First step, I’ve asked Stereogum to remove my Coachella guest post. Not out of spite or revenge, but to me, it just symbolizes a bad experience that hasn’t benefited me nor does it have value at this point since no one respects me on here.
Raptor Jesus, you win.
Next step is admitting to be an asshole. So I’m an asshole for over-speaking and writing thoughts and criticisms better left kept to myself.
I’m not going to assume everyone will like me (if they ever did) because of the past few weeks on here, but this is your board so I at least owe everyone their fair share of doing whatever they want with it as long as it doesn’t involve verbally beating each other up.”
To anybody that plans on Memorial Day weekend burning calories and getting bent off endorphines, I have three words, a number and an acronym for you:
HEALTH – Max Payne 3 OST
This is pretty great. I can see them having a nice refreshing run much like Mission of Burma did after their lengthy time away.
Is this out digitally or something? Captured Tracks’ website says the album arrives on June 26th. Sounds of the summer!
The guy from Gorilla vs. Bear is complaining on Twitter that you didn’t credit him for posting the track first. What a drama queen… UNLEASH THE WEINGARTENS*!
*The Weingartens are a breed of dog I’ve imagined that are part wolves and part hilariously sarcastic yet spot on music journalist.
For me, it’s been kind of up and down. At the beginning of the year, it was kind of “holy f-ck!” but in recent months, a lot of the new albums most others are excited for, I’m only okay with (i.e. The Walkmen.) If I had to throw out 25 albums in no particular order, it would be…
Beach House – Bloom
Ceremony – Zoo
Chromatics – Kill for Love
Cloud Nothings – Attack On Memory
Death Grips – The Money Store
Japandroids – Celebration Rock
Joyce Manor – Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired
Loma Prieta – I.V.
The Men – Open Your Heart
Mr. Dream – Fatherland E.P.
OFF! – OFF!
Screaming Females – Ugly
Torche – Harmonicraft
Xiu Xiu – Always
Looks like I only got to 14 that I feel sure about.
I’m not any of those, so just walking away from here without rectifying the matter in a way that will put my reputation back in tact is not a possibility. “Let it go” would be admitting I am what you say I am, and that’s just a flat out lie. No one gets to say what I am but myself, and as far as I’m concerned, my contributions here far outweigh any recent bad flak and fallout with fellow commenters and the writers.
I’m very much enjoying the pronounced vocals here. Drizzy, The Weeknd — You guys owe this guy big time for your sound styles and I’m glad he’s managed to stay one step ahead of you with this new one.
Interesting point. I’ve been wondering who will be the next alternative band to kind of be way, way huger than I ever imagined and Passion Pit’s odds are pretty good. They’re playing mid-sized amphitheatres on their upcoming tour, and by the time Coachella rolls around next year, I can imagine them being a subheadliner or even a headliner at the level of Black Keys, Kings of Leon, Muse or The Killers depending how commercially successful their new album is (Phoenix and Mumford & Sons are also likely candidates.)
Can we all just agree to just kind of start over?

Stewart.
Also, it’s not “business as usual” or “paranoia.” Let’s look at my recent comments and how the rest of the commenters have evolved them away from being on-topic:
- There’s one below where I basically sum up my thoughts of this week’s coverage and the surprise of all the new faces on here. The response: Someone creates a new account just to reply “Fuggoooff” and then rubberjohnny and rskva get some personal digs in by making up a story about me being off my meds and basically calling me crazy. RJ does it again later on. All unwarranted, that really made me feel awesome.
- I humorously reapproppriate the Brian Gallon pro-Tom Gabel blog to back up Scott’s DMB fandom. Tim Curtin and Michael Hanna join the “he’s crazy bandwagon” with personal digs.
- A reply to Cerebrus about the type of music Stereogum covers here is aggressively responded to by Tim Curtain (again) where he brings my blog into it and basically accuses me of plagiarism even when there was no such plagiarism.
To me, that’s proof that I walk around this place with a target on me even when my comments are just about the music at all times.
So you guys are all cool with people writing the word “faggot” over and over only because it’s being written by a “comical” troll but you can’t take two brain cells to think about why people react the way they do based on who’s saying it, making me the “ditasteful” bad guy. Well then – Why don’t I just come back here under a new name with some racially-charged avatar and constantly make use of the n-word, because that’s the totally rational argument you are making here.

Maybe they make up for it by wearing eyeballs during the day?
