Judging by your avatar I'm willing to believe you.
Thank you for the kind words, so glad to hear you're into it! I've been waiting for him to follow up By The Throat for years at this point and seeing him pop up on other projects only made it all more exciting, but it has definitely been worth it.
The phrasing is also a parody of Kieślowski's Three Colors Trilogy!
Hey now, Gemma Whelan is fantastic in that role.
Real bummed they didn't get enough into his pinball hobby.
I'm with you! Helplessness Blues was the album that really won me over to Fleet Foxes.
Yeah it really is!
Christoph played with them on Belong, but they are touring members now (and before Belong). But I just meant that people tend to be more familiar with Pains than DG. You're totally right though, and I miss the Guild too...
"people who like to have their neural cavities caved in by music" <<< That should be my new job title here.
Just about the perfect time for this to come out. Also worth checking out Saint Pepsi's "Unhappy" that we posted on last year which is built around samples from "The Summer Ends" off this album. http://www.stereogum.com/1492531/saint-pepsi-unhappy/mp3s/
Thanks for pointing that out! We just updated the post.
Yeah I think everyone is forgetting this is coming out! They put out 1 single a few months ago, and aside from a remix there's been very little in terms of any promotion. My understanding is that this is how the band has wanted it so more power to them. Either way the album really does speak for itself, and I already know from last summer that this stuff destroys live.
huh, just saw this thread. Hey, everybody!
Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never) has been live tweeting the stream for the last two hours and it's hilarious. https://twitter.com/0PN
Just corrected that, thanks!
Badger also shows up a few times as the pizza delivery guy in How I Met Your Mother. And a few times as a coffee delivery guy in Community.
Xiu Xiu, porn, and adorable kittens go together perfectly. It's like the weirdest Ben and Jerry's flavor ever.
Just updated it now.
"To You Alone" is incredible! That and "Sequinsizer" (the B-side to the single) both were on different drafts of my list. It was really tough letting them go, because they're by far the two most overlooked songs and could benefit from the attention more than say some of their really popular songs that everyone already knows. That said I tried not to let that factor into choosing even though those songs deserve a lot more listeners than they have. So in the end they got bumped.
I think the Best Metal category has me bummed more than anything else.
Oh god, we need a drinking game ruling for what to do if that happens.
Oh man, totally forgot about the TMNT villain! They rebooted him as such a creepier looking guy than he was in the 90s.
I love that song! That couldn't be considered though because we posted it a month ago.
Yeah they should, ferns. Yeah they should...
Thank you for telling me I'm awesome! You're awesome too! Forest Swords, The Field, and Stetson were all favs of mine this year too.
A Tooth For An Eye would have been #11 for me. Such an amazing song!
Shaun wins a cigar! Yeah there are really three definitive versions of the songs, all completely different. I agree that the Knife's live version is best.
Everyone needs a lil' B in their life.
This seems like the right place to drop this. Here are my 10 Honorable Mentions that didn’t make it onto our list in alphabetical order: – Dean Blunt – The Redeemer/Stone Island – Dirty Beaches – Drifters/Love Is The Devil – James Ferraro – NYC HELL 3:00 AM – Krill – Lucky Leaves – Lil B – Pink Flame – NMESH – Nu.wav Hallucinations – Tim Hecker – Virgins – The Haxan Cloak – Excavation – These New Puritans – Field Of Reeds – Two Inch Astronaut – Bad Brother
It's funny that he titled his letter "Thankskilling" since in the other ThanksKilling Turkey is also one of the top killers in the nation.
Major "Boring Angel" vibes. Just linked now.
Yeah, Tom gave me the proverbial keys to the metaphorical car this week.
I kinda liked Idlewild...
I don't regret that typo, because it spawned this comment.
Yo Yeezus forgot to mention Death Grips HI CLAIRE!
Yeah I noticed that too, when I wrote about "Knock On My Door" the whole thing was up and had been up for a while before they'd been signed to Faux Discx. So changing that might have been something the label requested, or was just an understandable reaction to the attention they're getting now.
