For some reason I thought it sounded like a dog barking that's been messed around with in the computer or something. Like in really old terrible keyboard synths when they'd have the "nature soundz"

Yeah, agreed. This album is pretty stellar. Specifically "Echoes." The way that song builds itself is super fresh. Along with the ambient intro in "Before" that rolls (literally) into the main body of the song.
