while what your saying might have a little bit of truth to it, that 8-10 million number is way off.
“Sigur Rós are an atmospheric pumpkin, and this year Halloween is Christmas.”
Get new friends.
“I suppose you selected “I don’t value music made from sampling” on the survey, which is bullshit, since Greg Gillis’ work here is obviously transformative, creative and individual.”
Incorrect. Sample-based music is a-ok in my book, so long as the artists sampled are aware and compensated for their contribution. Since Gillis doesn’t pay ANY of these artists for the use of their art, I don’t see why he should be compensated.
I’m going to pay as much for this album as Greg Gillis and Illegal Art paid to all the musicians sampled.
0.00.
reach out to greg dulli next time. dude knows how to cover a song.
i predict that these crowds will be 99.9% white.
..and the 5 million they just got from being purchased by buzznet.. they also got that.
to add to it, the xiu xiu track (along with most of their recent output) just shows how the band has spiraled into what is essentially self-parody.
homeboy nailed it.
yep. your indie universe is collapsing around you..
but artists you like are making money hand over fist, so stfu.
“You’ll stiff a bartender but would you stiff a waiter? No. Same difference.”
i wouldn’t stiff a waiter because he has been waiting on me all night, cleaning up my shit, taking away dirty dishes. at a bar (especially bowery ballroom) you are WAITING on the bartenders.
yeah, my experience at bowery has been slow bartenders giving me an attitude with my 6 dollar beer..so, uh, go fuck yourself, thanks.
where’s the girl in the performance shots?? they’re not even pretending that she adds more to the band than good looks.
do not let musicians act in music videos….ever!
this movie has been floating around the internet for like a year now. its really terrible… almost as bad at that colossal run-on sentence that begins this post.
“most obviously but still unofficially gay person in the world. ”
May I introduce you to my friends Anderson Cooper and Stephen Morrissey?

“So does that mean that he just shouldn’t make something like this?”
Not exactly. It’s one thing to repurpose other peoples’ art into something of your own, it’s another thing to attempt to profit from it. Gillis is making money off of this, yet nobody who wrote, played, recorded or released the original songs are seeing a cent, and to me, that’s wrong.
