I think Pink Eyes is reading alot into the statute. The idea is that if the cops stop someone for a suspected offense the person being stopped is now required to produce proof of residency, i.e. a driver’s license, pretty much like everyone in the country does. Have you ever been pulled over and NOT had to produce ID? The cops are not out randomly jacking up Hispanics and making them show proof of citizenship. The reality is that stopping an illegal with no ID is such a tremendous hassle that many cops were letting them go even though a crime may have been committed. I’m not saying that the law doesn’t open up the possibility for profiling and abuse, but it’s not requiring any more from “immigrants” then it does from citizens.
