You know, I hesitate to dismiss this article on the basis that it comments negatively on a band (and album) that I have a great appreciation for, but I can’t help but feel like if the album was overhyped initially, this review appears to swing the pendulum in the opposite direction……and on a fairly debatable basis. While, no, it is not the tour de force that “Funeral” was, there are some obvious successes and this notion that it’s “emotionally immature” or “flat” is an exaggeration that comes across like, well, the speech of someone who needs to justify re-reviewing an album. I suppose that could be a problem inherent to the system: I mean, why would you re-review an album unless you’re going to say something different about it? Nonetheless, I have to give this review the same classification as all the ones that out and out revered “The Suburbs”: unreliable. Why? Because I’ve heard it and while it may not be perfect….it’s really not that bad either.
