I really liked both the song and the video. Ignoring the whole "rape gaze" schtick and the fact that Witch House is just a fad, this sounds great and I'm curious to see what else these two ladies can do.
Well, it did have its moments, but I found it underwhelming as a whole. To me, a lot of these songs sound like good ideas in theory but suffered from poor execution. I'm not saying I could do any better because I can't, but I expected more from The Strokes. To be honest, if they had pared it down to eight or nine of the stronger tracks and gotten rid of some of the filler, I might have a more favourable opinion of it. One positive thing I can say is that there were definitely a few gems on the last album so not all was lost.
Definitely agree on The Soft Moon and Prince Rama. I just managed to listen to them towards the end of 2010 and I was quite impressed with both. I like the former's coldness; it makes for perfect winter listening. I love the latter's left-field vibe and general uniqueness. Highly recommended.
Haha, you guys should totally post that if there's any existing footage. I'd totally watch it.
As for Björk, This sounds strangely fitting. It's like it was meant to happen all along. Next thing you know she'll record a one-off single with New Order. :D
That's actually one of the things that keeps me coming back for each new album, the promise of something fresh and new. I may not always understand it, but that spirit of adventure is certainly exciting for me as a fan. Can't wait to hear the new one.
I tend to feel the same way. The ideas presented seem to be focal point here and the music is merely just the vehicle which she uses to get those ideas across. For me, the songs are hit-and-miss musically but I do appreciate what she's trying to say in them.
Woooo! I'm loving this list. Found so much great stuff that passed me by this year, namely the DOM and BALAM ACAB tracks. Hmm, come to think of it, I also totally forgot about "Colouring Of Pigeons" by The Knife. Time to re-visit that.
