How did I know you were going to be the first person who would post on this? Joking. It is going to a good cause. I kind of wish the Haitian finiancial plight would of been noticed before the diaster, but that is society. I saw the minimum bid is up to $225. A person can look at it two ways. One is that is too much money. The second is it is a good cause and I'm still saving money because Radiohead's new albums are free of charge
Okay, first what are you going to do about it? You are on an internet chat threat and threating people. Are you 17? Get a grip and don't try to compensate because you have a small penis or lacking something in your life. Thom Yorke is not above music. He may be able to fiddle around with record companies, but putting one foot in the door for gigs isn't cool. Give people full touring information.
Actually I think "In Rainbows" was on a i ndie label and debut at No. 1
Neutral Milk Hotel "Aeroplane over the Sea" Joking
Orbital can supply the power that those bands do. One of the great live acts in the last twenty years.
Thom York???? What a pretenious F***. Who does he think he is? Officially declare yourself and stop thinking you are above music as a whole you arse. Plus your solo material isn't that great. Orbital. That is top notch
I'm as big of a Gorillaz fan as the next guy, but was disappointed with this first single. Knowing Damon Albarn he will have a few gems on this album. I'm actually looking forward to hearing some of his material for the upcoming Olympics in London, where he has been selected for music coordinator, or whatever his official title is. Plus it is time for Blur to put an album out too. Blur fans are starved for a new one and had to endure Oasis albums and a new Verve album over the last 6-7 years with no Blur albums.
Hate to bust it to you, but when there is war, both sides are terrorists to each other. The Sri Lanka government committed some notorious human right violations during this conflict with the Tamil people. Don't go judging her and her people as terrorists, because war brings the worst out of both sides.
RIP Jay Reatard. I never listened much to your stuff, but I realized that you had many fans who adored you. My condolences to your friends and family.
I heard that DJ Blaqstarr was going to produce more for this album. He did "THe Turn" on the Kala album, which was vastly different from all the other songs on the album. This unnamed track does sound like "The Turn". I guess expect more electro, exotic tracks on this next album.
I'm not the biggest Spoon fan in the worlld. I think much of the internet media makes too much of them. I have to admit that Spoon has yet to make a bad album. Transference is a good album and I would recommend the album to people who are looking for a good guitar album. "The Mystery Zone", "I Saw The Light", and Nobody Gets Me But You" were my favorites. Britt Daniel is a great frontman, one of the best in the indie rock scene.
Just heard Michael Stipe and Guy Piccotto on NPR discuss their relationship with Vic Chesnutt. The interview was very moving. Stipe and Piccotto were beautiful with their words. Check it out on NPR's website NPR.org
It was a good performance. The album has better songs, but that is a good tune for the people who haven't heard them yet. Preview of future comments: 1. I can't understand why people like them. 2. They suck live 3. They are just stealing Paul Simon's sound 4. Hipster/Preppies can't make good music anymore?
22tracks.com is featuring "Diplomat's Son" on the Pop section of their website. That usually means that Pitchfork will do a track review. Expect "Diplomat's Son" to be on the best new track section of Pitchfork if that means to anything to anyone.
I just listened and thought it was a quality album. California English and Taxi Cab were very good. Reminds me of M79 or to something of that nature. I thought Giving Up The Gun can be remixed into a nice dancefloor tune, but in this day of age, anything can be turned for the floor. They did try to go for some lengthy tunes (Diplomat's Son) this time around. To be nice, it is a work in progress. Maybe in two years they can work out the kinks on that. Speaking of length. I love short albums. For example, Sonic Youth, Sister LP compared to Daydream Nation is better because Daydream is too damn long. That is my opinion though. Contra is what 35 minutes long. That is my kind of album
You should start a band and prove to all of us that your band is better than the Dirty Projectors
The Edgar Winter Group: Frankenstein: Best song on the list. I saw him live last summer. Great show.
Did anyone notice "Should I Stay or Should I Go"? The Clash has at least 50 songs better than that tune. I saw a guy at a Karaoke one time do "The Final Countdown" It was amazing.
If we are talking about The xx and La Roux, why not mention Florence + The Machine? Cosmic Love was one of my favorites this year. What about Speech Debelle? I think only people on the Mercury Prize committee liked her. Why don't we all come together and throw our own list of Top 25/50/100/500 best tracks and albums in one and see what we will get? I think that will settle the argument. I'm not buying the Gummy Awards. I think many of the AC fans just listened to a few new albums this year and didn't experience what else is out there.
Nothing topped Rae's album this year. That Kid Cudi album was nothing along with the Blueprint 3. Shows that Kanye is on the downslope of his career.
I don't know if people are questioning their relivance. I really hope no one believes that U2 is a bad band, because they are truely one of the great bands of the last thirty years of music. They are just voicing that U2 isn't making a ground-breaking/ or art albums like the Dirty Projectors/Fever Ray/ or even Phoenix are doing. I would be surprise if the majority of major U2 fans would believe that U2 made a better album this year than the bands I've mention above. Anyways U2 will never be Joy Division and The Clash.
You can also say that Pitchfork gives higher ratings to bands that do promotions for their site. No difference than what Rolling Stone does.
It is hard to make list like this. I did do a Top 100 list for songs, but for albums I can only muster out 30 albums that I liked from this year. I'm really pushing it when I think LaRoux came out with the 30th best album this year. For Pitchfork, I really only listen to a 1/4 of those albums. I could care less about Cass McCombs, The Mountain Goats, and a few others. I guess that is coming from someone who pledges that Hip/Hop is the greatest musical artform since punk music. The xx, Islands is a great song, but I'm not buying the album on one song. If there is a album that surprised me this year, it had to be Bibio. I love that album to death. Oh yeah, that Flaming Lips album wasn't anything special at all to my ears.
A few months ago, St. Vincent's "The Strangers" was on the Top 500 songs of the decade. Then a few days ago, I realize that "The Strangers" didn't make the Top 100 songs of 2009. I've tried to stop understanding Pitchfork's logic
That is gangsta, putting one of the best well rounded hip/hop albums this decade on their list. I do have to say that when Pitchfork rates artists who use a lot of soul samples, they should sort of back off because I think that is over their heads. The Dam Funk album is a perfect example. He is using samples that pitchfork critics are very unfamiliar with. It makes them look they are out of their league.
Rae gets #5, he should be #1, because his tunes were classic productions from two of the finest, Jay Dee and Pete Rock, especially Jay Dee. Many have tried to implement the Jay Dee style, but there is only one master. RIP Dilla. Thank the high lord that rappers like Raekwon still use his unmatched productions.
I think The Horrors and Bibio were left off Pitchfork's list was because they said "No" to playing at the Pitchfork Festival. Girls on the other hand will be playing the next 15 years at the Pitchfork festival.
Overall Pitchfork does the best. Here are my thoughts: -The Big Boi tune was an awful selection for #7. It would of been awful for #100. -The Very Best should of had two tracks in the top 100. -I'm really happy for Natasha Khan. Hey does realize that Siren Song is the best song on Two Suns? -Pictureplane: Goth Star- Top 20 track of 2009 -I like those Lady Gaga songs on the list... Keep them -J Dilla is still the best producer in Hip/Hop even three years since his death. Want proof, listen to Raekwon's newest -Any two tracks from Fever Ray's album would of worked on this list. I just happen to like Dry and Dusty and Keep The Streets Empty for Me a little more. -My biggest beef is this... Where the hell is Beach House's "Norway" on this list? It was released in 2009 and is the best track the upcoming Teen Dream album that should get perfect ratings.
I have Casa Bey in my Top 10. That Big Boi song was complete BS to be on the list. That is the top Hip/Hop tune of this year? Give me a break
Really happy to see Joker and Joy Orbison get high ratings. Hyph Mngo is one of my favorite tunes of the year.
You beat me to the punch. Where the hell is The Strangers at on that list? I wonder if they forgot about that? The Strangers and Marrow completely blow Actor Out of Work out of the water. Pitchfork needs to check themselves on that.
I thought 10 Bricks was going to be on the list. The top track on the new Raekwon is Ason Jones. That is a Dilla production for the ages there.
I think it is ridiculous that Pitchfork has treated The Horrors as they don't exist. I have Sea Within a Sea and Three Decades on my list. I think Allmusic is the best hope to truely promoting the best albums of each year.
RIP Oasis: Twelve years too late. RIP XX will be on next years In Memoriam
I guess Kanye, Jay-Z, Lil' Wayne, 50 Cent, Eminem, and T.I. were the only ones who made Hip/Hop music this decade. The great albums made by Ghostface Killah, Clipse, Raekwon, Slum Village, Q-Tip, Madvillain, Mos Def, Jay Dee, and many other more talented rappers were just figments of my imagination.
Then where is Tom Waits on this list?
