D’oh ho ho. Well-played, rogue (not well-played).
I still have yet to see a musically sound and logical backing behind any of these “boring” comments. I challenge someone to explain to me in musical terms why this band is boring. Because there is a fundamental difference between music actually being musically bland or boring and it simply being a matter of taste because they’re not doing the things you find to be musically aesthetically pleasing.
If it really is a matter of taste, then own up to it and just accept it.
I don’t know about you, but I find my cat litter to be ENTHRALLING.
LOOK AT DEM ODOR-ELIMINATING CRYSTALS.
P.S. – All of the “GB are boring” comments and their variants are waaaaaaaaay more boring than GB is.
MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC RARARARARARARARAR
Hey guys, can we please declare an official moratorium on any comments containing the words “animal,” “collective,” “grizzly,” and “bear” in any context? YOU’RE TEARING ME APPPPPAAAAAART, STEREOGUM!
On that note, looking forward to the Two Weeks video, though I’m not sure anything can compete with the Knife video. Encyclopedia Pictura ftw.
Apparently I’m 60 years old because I feel the same way about MPP.
Get off my lawn, you damn kids!
Not to mention he was the classiest-dressed one of the band members at BAM with his little bow tie.
Dude’s awesome.
Like night and fucking day. In Ear Park is a pleasant and interesting album, but it’s rather two-dimensional and a little repetitive after a while.
One of the things actually that I really like about this album is that I could actually hear a lot of EARLY Department of Eagles pop sensibility in there (especially on “Southern Point” and “I Live With You”), which is great because The Cold Nose is a really fun album.
I caved in…
…and I feel perfectly fine about it.
It lives up to the hype, plain and simple. The first time I listened through the album, it really just didn’t sink in how good it was because there are so many things going on with it. This is such a quantum leap from Yellow House in terms of songcraftmanship and nuance that it really somehow managed to catch me off-guard despite having heard half of the album’s tracks already performed live. Front-to-back, every second of this album is packed with utter beauty, creativity, and energy.
I think the one noticable thing that is really going to set this album apart from the rest of the good music out there right now is the fact that I think people ARE going to be talking about this album the rest of the year. I feel like this band has catapulted themselves into the realm of “supergroup,” in that it’s a collection of 4 absolutely tremendous musicians who are able to bring their collective talents together to create music that is both forward-thinking and incredibly pleasurable.
Normally I would say the “game-changer” monicker is a cliched and contrived way to describe any music that does something new and original. I really do feel that it’s spot-on in this case. But I guess the real test will be to ask me again six months from now and see if I feel the same way. I’m optimistic though.
I think I figured out the problem.
Wayne, he isn’t declaring victory at the end of his blog posts. That’s really his name.
It’s okay, you guys. Just a misunderstanding.
Ugh, these imposter posts are making me almost feel bad for liking these bands so much. Stop ruining music for me, you idiots.
Also, I couldn’t quite tell from the blog post, but is Ed saying that only those who pre-order the vinyl get a free download coupon? Because I will be crushed if that’s the case. I refuse to download the low-quality leak. I want to hear this thing for the first time as the band intended it…even if that means waiting the 3 months.
Reminds me a lot of the very angular and crystalline motif of the Knife video, as well as the t-shirt I have of theirs based off of that motif.
The cover makes perfect sense to me for this band.
Yeah, I second this inquiry on GB’s cover. I’d like to hear that.
Also, I’d think you would know by now that you can’t post anything on the internet for any length of time without it being snatched up.
Jesus Christ, you people. Not every post has to devolve into X is greater or worse than Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective.
I like both Sonic Youth and Grizzly Bear quite a lot (not so much an AC fan, BUT THAT’S JUST ME), and I am very excited for both of these albums to come out. I’ve really been into everything they’ve done since Murray Street, so I will not be displeased if it’s in a similar, more accessible vein.
For fuck’s sake though, stop these baseless comparisons. They were never funny, and you look like tools (regardless of whether you’re being ironic or not about it) for doing it.
Vanquished by Sound
I hope you realize that you have singlehandedly kept me awake over an hour longer than intended because of this.
SO GOD DAMN GOOD AUGH
The only version of “Fine For Now” I heard before this was a less-than-mediocre quality version from their Lollapalooza set on youtube. The studio version of this is undoubtedly going to be epic.
Speaking of epic, ONLY 3 1/2 WEEKS UNTIL BAM PERFORMANCE YAAAAAAAAAY.
So, now we know that Robin Pecknold and Kathy apparently read Stereogum. I wonder what other ‘gum-written artists actively browse this place.
Also, glad I could spur Menomena-driven discussion.
That demo has me PUMPED for the new album. The last minute is awesome.
Also, I haven’t heard a single thing about Menomena in over a year. Seems like they dropped off the face of the earth after Friend and Foe’s release. Can we get a progress report on them?
Oh you jokety jokester.
I think the only thing to do now is to not only stand up Saturday night but go the extra mile and pull a Win Butler by smashing your guitar.
I enjoy this running gag.
I’m VERY VERY VERY cautiously letting my guard down just enough to momentarily fantasize about this being true.
Okay, moment’s up. I call shenanigans.

They’ll probably collide somewhere in the middle of a videogum post where Gabe is ranting about why someone is the worst.
