After the entire set of lyrics on Viktor Vaughn this is my favorite stanza off the top of my head. DOOM! “Is he still a fly guy clappin' if nobody ain't hear it And can they testify from inner spirit (no) In living, the true gods Givin' y'all nothing but the lick like two broads Got more lyrics than the church got 'Ooh Lords' And he hold the mic and your attention like two swords”
RIP to the GOAT @inthedeadofthenight I’ve been playing the shit out of your Dumile playlist thank you for that. I’ll now be playing it even more today. Some serious hidden gems. This man had so many alias’ and so many side projects and all of them are top notch. A truly prolific and genius level talent! Prayers go out to to Jasmine and her family and this year can fucking end already!!!!
I’m super bummed Love is the King got no love anywhere. Personally I feel it’s better than Warm which was one of my favorite albums from 2018. Love is the King is such comfort music for me and I thought it would at least get some mention somewhere. Jeff Tweedy is a National Treasure! With the reissue of Summerteeth and this one I’ve been in a Tweedy cocoon this last month and it’s been very healing.
So I was born in 1975 and when I turned forty I did some deep research on songs released the year I was born. I created a playlist on a blog I used to write for but one of my favorite discoveries was Coyote by Joni Mitchell Thirty is the closest cousin to that song so needless to say I'm super pumped for this as well. Great promise by the first single!
Wish I was there a dram of Lagavulin or Ardbeg because that would fit this album for me
Beautiful Album. Beautiful review! I was once an aspiring writer and my first review was Helplessness Blues and this album and your review has led to revisit my writing. Thank you! https://aftertheradio.wordpress.com/2011/05/12/fleet-foxes-helplessness-blues/
Song for Leigh can't be beat. I think It is perfect and my favorite Walkmen song
Scatterbrain is my mood!
Dammit Van! How can it be that Morrissey and Van have given so much to me artistically and emotionally yet every time they open their talking mouth they take so much away. I used to be proud that these guys and I shared a common genetic makeup, but Fuck!!!!Shut up already and figure out how to make Bona Drag and Veedon Fleece again
I feel like this has potential for A Wes Anderson flick and Mark could soundtrack the bane of his existence
Where I don’t post hardly at all I’ve still been around since the start and consider myself a gummer residing in the San Bernardino Mountains so yeah you’re not the only one.

His death has bummed me out all week. This news is even more depressing. It’s crazy how an artist can lift you out of your own depression but can’t escape their own demons. Wish I could’ve done for Richard what he and Damien have done for me. This is how I’ll always remember Mr. Swift. RIP https://youtu.be/ebIDBxCZr7E
Not to be the spelling police but I think this one really matters It should be son not song.
Beautiful song equally stunning photo of Morro Rock. I love that place and that songs fits the mood there perfectly!
42 yrs old 4 kids and 200 miles away tonight in Santa Barbara and back to work tomorrow! Third time seeing them And I'm freaking out right now. Praying for Bones or Just, SHA, True Love Waits, and The Tourist!
I thought I was the only one... in fact I cringe to put both in my favorites of 2016 but both are outliers and way too good !

How did Hamilton Leithauser not crack the top 50???
Three songs for the National start with Terrible Love (alternate version) from High Violet deluxe, then go to Abel from Alligator and finish with Pink Rabbits from their latest. If that piques your interest the dive straight in and go on a bender and start with Alligator and don't resurface until Hard To Find finishes.
And that was all that I needed!!!
I've always compared the National to a good Belgian Trippel. It is complicated on the pallette but smooth going down and it's as strong as shit. Too much at one setting and your fucked up for hours. I'm not too sure that is such a bad thing because there is a comfort to this hammering. This album just adds to that metaphor, in fact it might be the most intoxicating of the bunch, maybe because it is the freshest but this melencholy is so what I need right now. The guitar dancing around the words on I need my girl in a double helix is why I love this band. They can wrap me up in a comfort cloud of pure aural bliss.
Man I've been waiting for this list for a while and it is heightened after scoring good seats to see them at the greek this summer but man what a blood buzzkill. Also looking at others lists I realized that I may be the only one that is in love with start a war. I love high violet maybe as much as this guy but this list just let me down because lists are so powerful that can swing my emotions maybe the national should write a song about apathy toward blog top tens, then it could make this lists top.
Speaking of Win win Think you can wait would make my top ten.
You guys smoke hipster crack! You're too OG national to appreciate a brilliant song. I can understand this list has glaring holes but to say blood buzz was a misstep is downright asinine.
With Morrissey like The Big Lebowski it's the one liners that rattle in your brain and then sink in your soul and stay with you until there is appropriate time when you quote it and sound like the witty genius who actually wrote them. So with that said my top ten have such one liners that have never left me, it would be different if I could include Smiths song but even narrowing down solo stuff is tough enough. 10. Alma Matters. So : the choice I have made May seem strange to you But who asked you, anyway ? It's my life to wreck My own way 9. Some People I know : They break their necks And can't afford to Get them fixed 8. King Leer : Well, could it be He's only got one knee ? & I crept up behind you With a homeless chihuahua 7. Driving Your Girlfriend Home : Not for the lyrics but just the feel of the song maybe one of his most smithesque songs (yes that is a good thing). 6. Irish Blood English Heart : This was his comeback and a solid one at that. 5. Sing Your Life : Any fool can think of words that rhyme & make no mistake my friend your pointless life will end 4. The End of The Family Line : Until I arrived (with incredible style) a beautifully heartbreaking song. 3. Such a Little Thing Makes Such A Big Difference : Can you Write? & Most people keep their brains between their legs. 2. Suedehead : just a perfectly brilliant pop song. 1. Disappointed : I can listen to this over and over. Young girl, one day you will be old But the thing is, I love you NOW Mmm ...This is the last song I will ever sing (Yeah!) No: I've changed my mind again (Aaw...) GOODNIGHT AND THANK YOU
Truly truly truly
