i once traded Soul Asylum's "Grave Dancers Union" for The Cranberries' "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?". i think i won that one, but it's a pretty tight race.

"Evil Empire hasn’t held up the way the band’s debut did.." tell that to "Snakecharmer".

i'm a big fan of "Love Me" because it sound nothing at all like "Fame". its originality is overwhelming.

this is a solid list. my personal fave is "Willie", although i'm not sure it could knock any of those off.

maybe it's an age thing, but Haim 6 and Afghan Whigs 100? shouldn't those, like, be reversed?

please. the entire metal revolution of the 80s owes everything to Twisted Sister and Quiet Riot. they made metal accessible to the masses the way Nirvana made counter cultural angst matter. they murdered barriers and Snider personally fought Tipper Gore. Kiss veered from everything they aspired to be in the 80s; they fought nothing but lead guitar players and relevance. I say this shithoused as a fan of both bands. One preceeded the other, and each helped create a new musical culture. We're Not Gonna Take It is Rock & Roll All Nite is Smells Like Teen Spirit is My Generation. Etc. Touchstone songs of youth uprisings. Paul is just mad he couldn't influence two straight decades. Props to TS for taking the torch in '84.

Gish is amazing, but still kind of rough around the edges. Siamese Dream is an absolutely perfect album from top to bottom, for any band in any genre.

as another 42 year-old, '83 was the year ZZ Top went full on synth and Spandau Ballet spawned PM Dawn. so, let's not get too crazy here.
