No, we can’t. It wasn’t a bad album at all. It definitely wasn’t the best of the year, but not terrible. I think, if you look back at their 30 years and 14 albums of music, I would only say 2 (Pop and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb) were bad records. Its kind of a hipster thing to hate on U2 now, when the fact is their great musicians, a great band, who still makes relevant and impressive music. Not to mention, many of your token stereogum bands (which I like myself) are influenced by them.
I hate to break it to you, but indie is no longer the genre only you’ve heard of. Its the future of music, and the press, and public, are gonna jump all over it. Which I don’t think is a bad thing if it gets Justin Bieber off my radio and Brittany Spears out of my magazines.
May I point out Dani California is a total Last Dance With Maryjane ripoff?
“best pop-punk album by far” is a bit like saying “best tasting chunk of shit I’ve ever had”
I gotta agree with all the fuss about Handsome Furs, they have been criminally overlooked on all these lists. Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but was Sleepyhead not released this year? That song is so fucking catchy!
Slaughtered each others songs, enjoyed the rest.
If the Chilli Peppers are dead, I won’t miss them. Stadium Arcadium was shit, and it will mean a few less songs to be overplayed on the radio.
Can’t find the leak, but the live songs sound very promising. And personally, I found the most interesting tracks on All Hour Cymbals were what you called “filler”. Hopefully this album has more “filler”
Jimmy Eat World? Really?
I like this ad, hopefully it will propel the National into more peoples hearts
I always thought Kim Possible had good taste in music!
Dixie Chicks? Beyonce? JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE? This is the worst list I’ve seen yet. Even worse, I expected it to be this bad.
Considering U2 only put out one bad album this decade (out of 3), they deserve to be on this list. However, they left the wrong one off. No Line On The Horizon was good, it should replace How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. Glad to see All That You Can’t Leave Behind get the love it deserves. People have to realize U2′s albums are more then the singles, then they will see they are actually quite good
A new Ra Ra Riot would be fantastic, but I doubt it will happen. Its gonna take them some time to find their footing for a second album since their lyricist, John Pike, died.
RIP John
Its sad that VANOC finds this necessary. Instead of putting a clause in the contract, which was only gonna create bad publicity, why not simply interview the artist. It must be easy enough to figure out if they are pro or anti-Olympics. Already a should-be-glorious event is soiling itself
Nickelback is on a mission to destroy Canadian music. Its criminal that they are our biggest band when you look at the amazing talent we have. If you don’t already listen to it, turn on some CBC Radio 3. Thats for everyone on this board. I promise you that you will find at least one amazing new band in your first hour or so.
Add The Acorn and Ohbijou to this list. Canadian music is more then Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, and Wolf Parade (or anything that comes out of Spencer Krug or Dan Boekner.)
I totally agree with you, if you dug deep into Canadian music, especially independent, you would have to re-write these lists. I live in Nova Scotia, and in this province alone, we have artists like Joel Plaskett, Wintersleep, and Tom Fun Orchestra, who make amazing and, above all, unique music. Then when you go across the entire country, you have artists like Dan Mangan, Chad VanGaalen, Feist, Hey Rosetta!, Do Make Say Think, etc that could turn these lists on their heads. I’d be interested to see a list of Canadian albums for the decade, as I truly believe the most interesting new music comes from up north.
I was just about to comment on that. How can it not make these lists! Dan Mangan should be here too.
Having KISS on the list pretty much totally blows its credibility right off the bat.
Two albums that really should be on this list:
Handsome Furs-Face Control
Dan Mangan-Nice, Nice Very Nice
Honestly, I’m shocked by this list. I expect it to be the worst of the bunch due to the Rolling Stone’s general reluctance to accept anything new and exciting (being virtually the only publication not to give Funeral, You Forgot It In People etc. the credit it deserved), but it is one of the better lists posted on here
And enough U2 bashing, the fact it they released 2 pretty decent albums this decade, albeit with one disaster in the middle
Of all the absences, I am most hopeful for Broken Social Scene and Wolf Parade. BSS are overdue, and anything close to the last 2 would be amazing. Wolf Parade tend to leave 2 years between albums, which would mean one this year, but with that said, Spencer Krug and Dan Boeckner have been busy so maybe not. Also, I pray for a new Modest Mouse before bed every night.
I’m sorry, maybe we should all let the radio decide what music we like instead of actually putting in an effort to find something interesting
I’m beginning to find hipster bashers like yourself even more boring then hipsters
Thank god this is just a B-Side. Cousins is great, Horchata is okay, I can’t get into this one.

I’ve loved U2 for years, and was generally pleased with No Line, which is second only to All That You Can’t Leave Behind since Achtung Baby. I think it deserved to be on this list, albeit closer to the 20s. It makes me laugh how many people on here hate on U2. Its a hipster thing to do now, and you will never find a decent musician who says U2 are shit and irrelevant. They all respect them, and most of them would admit to being influenced by them. People on this site who love indie music but hate on U2 are like people who love Oasis but say the Beatles were shit.
