I think some people may be missing the point.
The point of this for a band like Phoenix is to broaden their fanbase to kids who normally wouldn't hear this band and couldn't give a fuck about indie rock or indie cred.
We can debate this issue as much as you like, but obviously Phoenix want to be a huge huge band. No one signs on for a masturbatory celebration of product placement like this ad is without expecting to gain a hell of a lot. And we're not only talking the short term monetary gain, but in the long term too.
I've been a long time fan but this isn't going to dissuade me from enjoying this band.
Yes it's unfortunate, but it is good to see a band that wants it all, who isn't a shlock rock band, and is using the opportunities given to do just that.
People should ease up and cut the kid some slack. He appears to be having fun, he's playing his music, to his fans, and they appear to be enjoying it. Chill Winston.
I would love to hear this track. It'll probably be the best thing Jared Leto ever does. Also they probably just went shopping together and traded clothes.
This song is classic Phoenix. It's got that dude singing, that other dude playing guitar, a title that is historically significant. The french know how to do easy listening rock and roll.
They've been getting better and better. The last 2 albums were great but a few tracks I didn't care for. Yet it's nice to see a band that evolves and isn't afraid of something new.
Respect for trying something new, even if it still sounds like Arcade Fire, which is good to begin with. I dig the song but the production sounds different then their other stuff.
